What a venue, what a view! 😍

We're so grateful to Auckland Council for funding the hire of halls like the Hawke Sea Scouts Hall aka 'The Ship', through the 2025 Waitematā Accommodation Support Fund.

This means our rangatahi and volunteers have a safe, functional (and beautiful) place to meet each week. Who wouldn't be inspired by that sunset! 🌇

Hawke Sea Scouts raised $800 towards Jamboree 2026 at the Browns Bay Market on Sunday!

Scouts were up from 5:30am selling donated goods, gaining valuable sales and teamwork experience while helping give pre-loved items a second life.

A big thank you to all the families who donated and supported us!

Its National Volunteer Week - Tōu tau ki te tūao!!!

So I wanted to take the opportunity to say a massive thank you to all our volunteers from across Aotearoa!!! You all are the heart of Scouting, organising our gear cupboard, fundraising, camps, mentoring our youth people, the list goes on and on!

But this week is also an opportunity to highlight some of our amazing volunteers in Scouting! So lets kick off a week of apprieciation with Maddy! She is an amazing Sea Scout Leader who has helped develop our Learn to Sail programmes! Lets hear from her!

"I love volunteering with Scouts because I get a front‑row seat to young people discovering what they’re capable of. Creating an environment where rangatahi feel supported, trusted, and encouraged to give things a go is something I’m really proud of. There’s something special about watching a Venturer step up, try something new, and realise, “Hey, I can actually do this.” Whether it’s leading an activity for the first time or solving a problem as a team, every session has its own energy, surprises, and little wins. It’s a journey in itself watching where the youth go.
One of my favourite memories is the National Regatta 2025. I was part of the Learn‑to‑Sail team, and it was incredible seeing kids arrive with little or no sailing experience and just give it a go. Some were nervous, some were buzzing, but every single one of them stepped outside their comfort zone. Watching them grab a tiller for the first time, figure out how the wind works, laugh through the wobbles, and celebrate the small wins was awesome. Seeing how much they grew in just a few days is something I’ll never forget. "

Auckland Regatta shaped up to be quite different than originally planned at the start of the year. Normally it’s a 2 night camp and 2 day regatta late in term 1 at Lake Pupuke. However torrential rain at the time saw it postponed till term 2 and turned into a single day event.

The morning was rowing and Hawke entered a junior crew with one of our venturers as cox. We had a good race but did not quite make a placing we had hoped for.

The afternoon wind did not subdue as expected and caused the sailing to be cancelled. But it was replaced with extra seamanship and iron scouts competitions and Hawke came first equal in the Junior Iron Scout which was a real highlight for our youth.

Overall a great day and lots of fun had by all. BRAVO to our leaders and helpers who made this event possible.

Building on the success of previous years the Hawke group camp took place once again at Campbell Park in Mangawhai Heads.

With a record 83 attending including keas, cubs, scouts, venturers, parents, and leaders we were at the capacity of the rooms and so out came the tents for our venturers section.

While the forecast was initially a bit of a concern, luck was on our side, with great conditions to sail up the harbour to the sand dunes for the adventure trip that is the highlight of the weekend.

Throw in some learning activities, a campfire, a talent show, some fantastic food, and everyone pitching in together to help and it was the perfect combination for a weekend to remember. I’m not quite sure who won the tug-of-war competitions but I know everyone had heaps of fun.

It was also wonderful to have so much help for the cleanup at the end, and the support of everyone involved.

A special BRAVO to our dedicated leaders and helpers who organized and ran this camp.

Wow! As always the winterless North never fails to amaze us for Northland Regatta at Kai Iwi Lakes.

Hawke loaded up 2 trailers of camping gear and food, and 5 boats onto trailers. Then 24 scout and venturer youth and 10 adults made the trek north.

We had perfect weather and Hawke competed in sailing, rowing, kayaking, seamanship, iron scout and camping standards in junior, intermediate, senior and open divisions with great enthusiasm. We came 3rd in the Intemediate cutter sailing and 3rd in the open sailing and all had lots of fun.

Hawke also provided a fully crewed safety patrol boat to ensure the regatta ran smoothly and safely.

As well as the youth taking part in all the events one of our leaders was also assessed over two days for his Water Charge Certificate endorsements for Sailing and Rowing. It’s with amazing volunteers like this that we are able to run our water activities for our group safely

At the end of the weekend we had some very tired youth and leaders and a big job to decamp, the long drive home and the big unpack.

As always a massive BRAVO to our leaders and parent helpers for making this event possible.

What a fantastic first camp of the year it was with the Moana Rua Zone Founders Day celebration camp at Motu Moana campground.

Hawke had all sections represented with Keas, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers in attendance.

Saturday started with the annual awards ceremony recognising outstanding effort. We are proud to announce that two Hawke leaders were recognised, one receiving a Bronze and the other a Silver Tiki award for their volunteering. BRAVO.

Hawke youth had a fantastic two days of activities and went on to win the cubs section tug of war competition.

Additionally Hawke took out the Camp Standards prize for the best organised campsite thanks to the efforts of all Hawke youth and leaders.

After two days and nights of activities there are some tired youth (and leaders) who will sleep well.
