City of Auckland Army Cadets

City of Auckland Army Cadets We are a military-styled, volunteer, youth organisation for NZ's leaders of tomorrow. Officers give their time voluntarily.

We are a partnership between the Ministry of Defence, New Zealand Defence Force and the community. The New Zealand Defence Force supplies the training syllabus and expertise. Supporters help to fundraise for uniforms, equipment and trips. The training programme helps Cadets develop a positive outlook, maturity, self-confidence, initiative, teamwork, and leadership skills. It gives them many opport

unities that will benefit them in any career in the future. Contact us for information or come and see us on Wednesday nights during the school term between 6.00pm and 9.00pm. We meet at:
Auckland Army Centre
204 Great North Road, Grey Lynn

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Final Parade 10/12/25
As we begin the first school term of 2026, we take a moment to reflect on the commitment, effort, and growth shown by our cadets throughout 2025. From parade nights to exercises and courses, every challenge contributed to the skills, confidence, and resilience built along the way. The unit acknowledges the contributions made by all members and extends best wishes to those moving on. We look ahead to the year to come and welcoming new recruits as our second intake begins.

Term 3 has been an outstanding term of activities for our cadets. From tramping the Pinnacles and camping overnight under the Milky Way, to learning vital first aid skills during EX MASH, visiting the Police Helicopter Base, and competing proudly on Sports Day where we placed second. Each activity has strengthened teamwork, leadership, and resilience across the unit.

On Monday 8 September, we celebrated the life of 2LT Hugo Landman, our valued Training Officer who passed away suddenly two weeks ago.

2LT Landman joined the City of Auckland Cadet Unit as a recruit in 2017, making their way up the ranks, participating in camps and courses, and leaving a lasting impact on everybody they met. 2LT Landman's passion for cadets was never doubted, and this loss is greatly felt not only at CACU, but within every community that was lucky enough to have had them be a part of.

CACU will never forget their profound compassion and empathy for everybodyβ€”they always created a safe space for our cadets, and was never judging. We will never forget their unwavering dedication to improve our Cadet Unit, reassuring us every day that we were in capable and caring hands. We will never forget the joy they brought everywhere they went, their infectious sense of humour, and their love for cadets.

Over the first weekend of the school holidays, CACU participated in the annual Northern Area Skills competition. The team worked hard throughout the numerous stands, and left with 4th place and a win in the Initiative stand.
Well done to the Skills team for your excellent work and dedication.πŸ’―

Ex DOWN IN THE WEEDS || This past weekend saw our Basic Training Phase cadets deploy on a basic bushcraft camp to develop their bush skills in a controlled environment.

The training programme covered the environmental care code (Leave No Trace), campsite selection & layout, movement through bush & close country, first aid kits & survival kits, application of first aid, water sources & treatment, camouflage & concealment, fire lighting, emergency & makeshift shelters, and an exciting night exercise.

A jam-packed but highly successful training weekend!
