Shore Junction is an innovative youth initiative designed to provide a safe space for young people to connect, belong, collaborate, learn, innovate and realise their potential. To achieve this, a range of programmes, events, services and activities (‘content’) will be offered through Shore Junction. This content has been designed around five ‘pillars’ or subject areas:

1. Science, Maths & Engineering
5. Arts & Culture

The scope and content of these pillars has been co-designed with young people. They are targeted to the key opportunities that young people feel will best accelerate them towards their futures, by providing support for their self expression, personal development, entrepreneurship, leadership, learning and employment skills.

SJ runs on people - and to be able to hold this space for local rangatahi, we rely heavily on donations. A massive thank you to everyone who gives what they can to keep this place going. Whether it's funding our youth workers or buying guitar strings and noodles, every contribution matters. We couldn't do this without you.

☕ 𝑻𝒆𝒂 & 𝑻𝒂𝒍𝒌
A cup of tea and a good chat. Each week, we vote together on the next topic.

Thanks so much to everyone who joined us for our first term of Tea & Talk hang-outs - we’ve loved the kōrero and connection! Over the term, we’ve talked about confidence, community, stress, uncertainty, how you relax, and self-care.

𝑵𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒌:
We’ll be rounding off our first term of Tea & Talk next Tuesday - this time at 1pm because of the school holidays. Our topic: (how to say) Goodbye.

This is a timely topic, as this will be our last Tuesday with Zora, who has done an amazing job facilitating the group while she’s been here at SJ on a study placement from Massey University.

Bring a friend or come as you are - everyone’s welcome. ☕

I tēnei wiki, ka whakanui tātou i Te Wiki o te Reo Māori!
This week we celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori!

Every year since 1975, Aotearoa has marked Māori Language Week. It began with Māori Language Day on 14 September, marking the presentation of Te Petihana Reo Māori (the Māori Language Petition) to Parliament in 1972, signed by more than 30,000 people calling for te reo Māori to be taught in schools.

More than 50 years later, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is a chance to celebrate te reo, learn a little more, and think about the place of te reo Māori in Aotearoa.
Te reo Māori is more than a language. It is closely connected to Māori identity, culture, whakapapa, history and the way knowledge is shared across generations.

Learning te reo isn't about getting everything right straight away.
It's about giving it a go, being curious, and creating space for the language to be heard and used.

So this week at Shore Junction, we're celebrating te reo Māori - and having a go at learning a few new kupu along the way. 🌿

He reo, he tāngata, he taonga.A language, a people, a treasure.

We’ve established a brand-new youth leadership team, now meeting on Tuesdays, and we’re looking for young people who want to have a say in what happens around SJ. No experience necessary - just keenness to give us your thoughts on what happens at SJ, and to be on the team running some of our activities.

We’re kicking off weekly from today, with meetings running 4–5:30pm on Tuesdays. If you want to know more, drop by and chat to the team, or flick us a DM.
