⛳️ That’s a wrap for our Term 3 Golf Programme!

Despite some challenging weather and heavy rain along the way, which meant we had to make a few adjustments to our sessions, everyone stayed enthusiastic and committed to learning.

With the support and guidance of our coach, it was wonderful to see participants improve their skills and grow in confidence throughout the programme.

A special highlight was seeing many of our mums trying golf for the very first time! It wasn’t just about learning a new sport — it was also a great opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, stay active, connect with others, and enjoy learning something new together.

A big thank you to Pupuke Golf Club for their support in helping us deliver this Chinese She Loves Golf programme and creating such a welcoming environment for our participants. We really appreciate your support in making this experience possible!

Thank you also to our coach and everyone who joined us throughout the programme. We hope this is just the beginning of your golf journey! ⛳️

A lovely celebration of culture and connection at our recent Community Network Hui!

We enjoyed introducing Open and Connect NZ and sharing the history and traditions of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. Everyone tasted different flavours of mooncakes and joined in a fun quiz — we were surprised and delighted that some participants got almost every answer right!

There was also time for everyone to introduce their organisations, share upcoming events and connect over tea and mooncakes.

2026 New Zealand General Election Information Workshop

What does voting actually feel like when you step through the process yourself?

That was one of the questions our community explored at the 2026 New Zealand General Election Information Workshop at Takapuna Library.

Rather than simply listening, participants could explore the voting process in a practical, interactive way. The session covered a range of topics around taking part in the election, including enrolment, the voting journey, different voting options, and the support available to help people participate with confidence.

One particularly meaningful part of the session was the discussion around why every vote matters. Real examples brought this idea to life, showing that every individual’s participation can have a real impact.

The mock voting activity then gave everyone a chance to put what they had learned into practice. By stepping through the process themselves, members could become more familiar with what voting may look like in a real election.

The discussion continued with an engaging Q&A, where points raised from the room showed how carefully everyone had listened to the speech — every question was answered correctly!

A special thank you to our Electoral Commission Advisor for sharing such valuable information and explaining each topic clearly. The approachable presentation made it easier to follow along and engage throughout the session.

Meanwhile, our volunteers were already at work before the session began, preparing the space and welcoming participants as they arrived. Clear guidance was provided around the library and meeting room, which helped visitors settle in and ensured the session ran smoothly.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the event so positive and interactive. We hope the afternoon made the voting process feel a little clearer, more approachable, and easier to navigate.

We look forward to creating more opportunities for our community to learn, connect, and take part.

Our Term 3 Golf Class is underway!

After a long, rainy winter, the weather is finally getting warmer and brighter — a perfect time for our Term 3 golf programme to get started!

For some of the kids, it’s their very first time trying golf, while others are still building confidence with their English. But that hasn’t stopped anyone from joining in! They’ve been following the coach, learning new skills, making new friends, and most importantly — having fun together.

It’s wonderful to see the kids becoming more active, building confidence and connecting with each other through sport.

🌙✨ A Night of Discovery, Connection & Curiosity

What a wonderful evening of exploration at Sylvan Park! 🌿🌜

We were delighted to welcome 10 families to an event that reminded us how much life comes alive after dark.

Despite the unpredictable weather, the children came prepared with plenty of enthusiasm and curiosity. With the limited light making every discovery a little more exciting, our group spotted a fascinating variety of tiny creatures hiding in the darkness. Some were surprisingly small, others much larger than expected — and the keen eyes of our young explorers certainly didn’t miss much! 🔦🕷️🪲

Along the way, we also discovered some beautiful plants and natural details. It was a wonderful attempt to see how different and magical the natural world can feel after sunset. 💫

A special thank you to our guide, whose expertise and passion made the journey even more meaningful. From identifying the creatures we encountered to answering the children’s questions, every explanation was delivered with patience, knowledge, and care.

Behind the scenes, our organising team worked closely together to make sure everyone could enjoy the activity at their own pace, while keeping the group connected throughout the evening. Their attention to detail helped create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience. 💚

And, of course, a big cheer for our brave young explorers! 👏 Their courage and willingness to get involved made the event even more memorable, and we were pleased to celebrate their efforts with a little surprise gift at the end. 🎁

Learning Community Hub | A Morning of Discovering Literacy🍀📗☀

Last Week, the Learning Community Hub brought parents together for a closer look at the literacy journey that children experience in New Zealand schools — building strong foundations and developing confidence in reading, writing and communication.

🌟Rather than focusing only on what children learn, we explored how they learn.🌟

Parents gained insights from real classroom approaches. We looked at how teachers help children understand texts, think critically and communicate their ideas.

🙌“What happens to a child’s literacy journey as they move through the primary years?” 🙌

Parents discovered how literacy is monitored at different stages. It was a valuable chance to see the bigger picture and understand the role this information plays in supporting each child’s development.

One of the most meaningful parts was the conversation between parents. Through discussion and reflection, families shared their experiences and compared them with progress in schools. This section opened up new perspectives that home and school learning work together.

At the heart of the session was a simple idea: supporting literacy is not simply about getting every word right. It is about helping children become confident learners who can understand, express, reflect and communicate. 🗓🗣️🧠🙋

🌙✨ Meet&Connect Eco Families | Nighttime Nature Discovery

What happens in the park after dark? Join us for a special evening of nature exploration at Sylvan Park, Milford, and discover the fascinating creatures that come alive at night!

Led by an experienced guide, families will explore the park after sunset and look for a variety of nocturnal wildlife — from insects and spiders to aquatic life such as fish and eels, along with other little creatures that are active after dark. 🕷️🪲🐟

And to wrap up the evening, we’ll enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate together. ☕✨

📅 Date: Sunday, 30 August
🕖 Time: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
📍 Meeting Point: Sylvan Park car park, 16 Pierce Road
👨‍👩‍👧 Suitable for: Children aged 5 and above
👥 Capacity: Maximum 20 participants

What to bring:
Please dress warmly and wear closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor exploration. Red-light torches will be provided, though you are welcome to bring your own torch as well.

🌧️ The activity will go ahead as planned unless weather conditions are unsuitable.
