📚【Devonport Library Discovery Journey Recap】📚

Last weekend, we brought Chinese and migrant families to explore Devonport Library — one of New Zealand’s most beautiful libraries — to discover the wide range of services within the public library system. During the session, library staff introduced parents to the children’s Reading Steps system for matching young readers with suitable books, as well as reward programs designed to encourage positive reading habits.

Beyond children’s resources, staff shared valuable information about essential community support, including free Citizens Advice Bureau appointments, Justice of the Peace (JP) services, and legal aid. Families also discovered the unique community culture of the library, highlighted by the story of Benjamin, Devonport’s beloved “library cat.” Deeply loved by locals, Benjamin has a bronze statue outside, wears special outfits during festivals, and even has his own photo album, beautifully reflecting the warmth and sense of belonging the library brings to the community.

The experience successfully encouraged children’s interest in reading while strengthening family and community connections. A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful Devonport Library staff and all the families who joined us!

🌿【Nature Discovery Family Walk—Takarunga Recap】🌿

Last weekend, we guided families on an exploration of Mount Victoria (Takarunga) in Devonport for a meaningful journey combining nature, history, and cultural discovery. Through a relaxed family walk, participants learned about the history of Devonport, the formation of Auckland’s volcanic landscape, and the deep cultural significance of the area within Māori traditions. From the summit, families enjoyed stunning views of the Waitematā Harbour and city skyline while gaining a deeper connection to the local environment.

Along the trail, families also explored local plants and their stories. Children discovered the refreshing minty scent of the Australian Peppermint tree and learned about Kawakawa, one of New Zealand’s most well-known native plants. Families were introduced to its important medicinal uses in traditional Māori healing practices, as well as its deep cultural significance in ceremonies and community traditions.

Through observing, touching, smelling, and discussing the natural world together, children and families experienced a deeper connection between nature, culture, and community. We hope these outdoor experiences continue to inspire families to slow down, explore, and reconnect with the land and stories around them.

💚 We believe nature is one of the best classrooms for growth and learning, which is why we are committed to creating meaningful outdoor experiences where families can learn, connect, and grow together through nature.

✨ More family nature adventures and community activities are coming soon!

The second session of our Learning Community Hub series, “Being Safe at School” , was presented by Senior Constable Tania from the NZ Police, who spoke with parents about how children can learn to protect themselves, online safety, and bullying issues. The session also explored how schools and police work together to support students’ safety and wellbeing.

This session welcomed three parents attending for the first time, as well as some who have joined several of our previous workshops.

One parent shared that she always gains something valuable from these sessions — even if she does not always find a clear answer, the discussions provide inspiration and practical ideas she can apply in everyday life.

Parents actively shared their own experiences, discussed real-life situations, and exchanged ideas. It was clear that everyone deeply cares about their children’s emotional and physical safety at school.

Education is not only about learning knowledge, but also about helping children build a sense of safety, confidence, and healthy relationships.

🎓【2026 Learning Community Hub | NZ Education Seminar Recap】🎓

📚 Session 1 – Overview of the New Zealand Education System

Last week, we successfully hosted the first session of the 2026 Learning Community Hub education seminar series, bringing together many Chinese and migrant families to better understand the New Zealand education system and explore ways to support their children’s learning journey in New Zealand.

The session was filled with thoughtful discussions and active participation from parents. Families raised many meaningful questions about the NZ education structure, curriculum, NCEA pathways, tertiary education, and current education policy changes. Through open conversations and shared experiences, parents gained a deeper understanding of how the education system works and how to better support their children’s future pathways.

We are also grateful to the Senior Advisor from Ministry of Education, who joined us and provided practical, informative, and supportive responses to parents’ questions. Their insights helped families better understand available educational resources, policies, and opportunities for students and parents in New Zealand.

Learning Community Hub aims to continue creating a supportive space where migrant and multicultural families can learn, connect, and grow together while navigating their children’s educational journeys.

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents, guest speakers, and supporters who made this event such a meaningful and engaging experience.

We've just wrapped up our Term 1 Women's Golf Programme – and what a journey it's been! 🏌️‍♀️

A wonderful group of beginner golfers joined us, bringing curiosity, courage, and a real sense of community 😊

For many, it was their first time holding a club. And guess what? They absolutely loved it.

The sessions were filled with laughter, energy, and plenty of "I didn't know golf could be this fun!" moments 🌞

What made us smile the most? Seeing so many migrant women not just give it a go, but genuinely get interested in the game – already asking, "When's the next session?"

We're proud to have created a space where women feel supported to try something new, enjoy the game, and make new friends along the way.

A big thank you to Pupuke Golf Club for making this programme possible 👏🏼Pupuke Golf Club

🌿Long Bay Regional Park Family Hiking Recap🌿

This weekend, we brought families together at Long Bay Regional Park for a meaningful nature exploration experience — slowing down, observing carefully, and reconnecting with the natural world across forests, grasslands, and the coastline.

Children became “Little Nature Detectives,” searching for native birds and plants, observing shells along the beach, and listening closely to the sounds of nature. Through hands-on exploration, families learned how forests, grasslands, and oceans are all connected as one ecosystem.

As part of our “Leave No Trace” mission, children also took small but meaningful actions to help protect the environment and understand the importance of caring for nature.

Throughout the walk, children shared their discoveries with curiosity and excitement, while families built stronger connections through shared outdoor experiences.

💚 We believe nature is one of the best classrooms for growth and learning.
We are committed to creating meaningful outdoor experiences where families learn, connect, and grow together through nature.

✨ More eco-family adventures and nature exploration activities coming soon!
