On tomorrow 👉 Friends of Taihinui Historical Reserve
Meet at Te Kawau Pass, Greenhithe, 9.30am - 12 noon

Friends of Taihinui Historical Reserve is a small but dedicated group of volunteers who meet every Thursday - and they’ve been doing incredible mahi over the years.

After tackling large patches of elaeagnus for several seasons, the team is now at the stage where they “weed and walk”: moving through the reserve and controlling pest plants like wild ginger, woolly nightshade, moth plant, and of course, any sneaky elaeagnus that pops up.

A small patch of elaeagnus was found last week, but thankfully it was nothing this experienced crew couldn’t handle 💪🌿

If you love getting off the beaten track, enjoy being outdoors, and you’re up for a bit of a challenge, this is the team for you. Come join the Thursday crew and help protect one of Greenhithe’s hidden gems 🥾🌳✨

🌱💚 Great to see taraire seedlings thriving in Kererū Reserve — a wonderful sign that possum control is working and kererū are helping regenerate a healthier ngahere! 🕊️✨

Louis was stoked to see heaps of taraire seedlings popping up in the Kererū Reserve last week while he was out servicing the traps! 🌱✨

It’s an awesome sign that possum control is working and that kererū are feeding in the area. Kererū are the only widespread native bird capable of swallowing and dispersing large fruits like taraire. They carry the seeds away from parent trees, giving them a much better chance of germinating and thriving. More kererū activity = more taraire regeneration = a healthier ngahere. 🕊️🌳

Huge thanks to our Pest Free Greenhithe trappers & funders who've helped provide and maintain the traps. Your mahi is directly supporting outcomes like this. Every trap check truly counts. 💚🕊️🌳

It was a great opportunity to share updates, swap ideas, talk about the role of our Neighbourhood Support network in an emergency, pick up resources, and strengthen our connections. 🤝📚🚨

Online bullying, harassment, and abusive messages are never just "part of being online" 📲

It can take place over various platforms such as social media, messaging apps, gaming platforms and through email or texts.

Online bullying can involve:

🔹Sending mean or derogatory messages and name calling.
🔹Repeated unwanted online contact.
🔹Spreading rumours or lies.
🔹Sharing embarrassing pictures or videos.
🔹Creating fake profiles to impersonate someone.

Everyone deserves to feel safe online, whoever they are. Looking out for each other, including the people in our lives who are more likely to be targeted.

Contact Police if you feel unsafe. You can also report bullying, abuse and harassment via the Netsafe website https://netsafe.org.nz/report

On Saturday, we had an awesome afternoon at the Te Wharau Nature Walk co-hosted with Auckland Council, with support from Greenhithe Community Trust, Upper Harbour Primary School, North Shore Rotary and Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust
Families came along to explore the area, learning more about and how to ID:
🌱 Pest and native plants
🐀 Pest animals and trapping
🦎 Native wildlife
💧 Waterway health, including stream species and turbidity
It was so wonderful seeing families get involved, asking questions, and connecting with our environment.
Ngā mihi nui to Auckland Council, and everyone who came along and made the afternoon such a success

This Wednesday 19th Aug... catchup for our Greenhithe NS street contacts

If you are one of our Neighbourhood Support street contact people or would like to find out about what is involved in this volunteer role please join us this Wednesday 19 Aug 7pm - 8.30pm in the hall at 12 Greenhithe Rd (behind the Chapel and the Hope Shed)

There will be light supper and a cuppa on offer .

And it is an opportunity to meet other street contact people, to hear local NS updates, understand the role of NS in an emergency such as a major weather bomb and pick up NS resources if needed including street signs.
