What a fantastic Open House at Kristin Toastmasters!

We were thrilled to welcome 14 guests through our doors for an evening themed around “Holidays” — a chance to recharge, connect and try something new.

Grace, one of our newer Toastmasters, inspired us with the message: “You don’t need to see the whole staircase, you just need to take the next step.”

Then Maggie shared what 26 years of Toastmasters has brought to her life and career, including her journey to becoming Headmaster of Kristin School — a wonderful example of where those small steps can lead.

And our guests certainly took their own next step! Seven guests took on Table Topics, thinking on their feet and speaking for 1–2 minutes. They were absolutely on fire!

A huge thank you to everyone who made the evening possible, especially Rachel for all the hard work behind the scenes.

🌱 A Season of New Beginnings at Kristin Toastmasters

Our meeting on 10 September was all about SPRING — a season of fresh starts, growth and new possibilities.

We were delighted to hear Kyle deliver his very first Ice Breaker, “Finding the Person Behind the Job.” Kyle shared his journey of moving from Korea to New Zealand and reflected on something many of us can relate to — we are more than the work we do. Life is also about the people we love, the relationships we build and making time for what truly matters. Congratulations, Kyle, on taking that first step and sharing your story with us!

Grace followed with her speech, “One Small Step.” A wonderful reminder that change doesn't always have to begin with a huge leap. Sometimes it's one small decision, one small action, or simply having the courage to begin. Those little steps, repeated over time, can take us somewhere we never imagined.

Maggie then led our Table Topics with thought-provoking questions about life, new adventures and embracing what lies ahead. No preparation, just the opportunity to think on your feet and see where the question takes you!

Our takeaway from the evening?

Spring reminds us that we can always begin again. We don't need to have everything figured out — sometimes we just need to take that one small step forward.

What a night we had at Kristin Toastmasters!

Last Thursday was our Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contest, and there was plenty of laughter, great stories and quick thinking.

Our four Humorous Speech contestants were Grace with My Perfectly Organised Disaster, Melanie with Read the Rule Book First, Patrick with I Have a Secret, and Kitty with Yes, I Am a Narcissist.

Congratulations to Patrick, who took out first place with a speech that had us laughing all the way through. And a big thank you to Aly, who brought so much energy as Contest Chair.

Then came the Table Topics Contest with the question:

“Does growth always require discomfort?”

One question, no preparation, and so many different answers! Even the interviews afterwards turned into another mini Table Topics session and gave us plenty more laughs.

We’re so excited to see Patrick and Aly representing our club at the Area Contest in November.

Our next meeting is Thursday, 10 September, 7–9pm.
