Elohim Development Foundation EDF is a non-governmental organization based in Benue State, Nigeria, established in 2006.

We focus on promoting human rights, peace, and sustainable development by empowering youth and women and alleviating poverty in vulnerable communities. We are the foremost organization of choice in Benue State to offer psychosocial support to survivors of Gender Based Violence, (GBV) while carrying out other interventions in the GBV sector..We work with in school and out of school youths (18 to 35yrs) in Nigeria with particular attention to the Benue youth. We offer counseling services to young people based on career choices, relationships and spiritual matters. We engage in the development of proposals and the design and implementation of programmes. We have trained Trauma Counsellors who help survivors of any kind of Trauma cope and eventually overcome difficult situations. We work in partnerships with corporate organizations, philanthropists and communities to carry out our activities. We welcome support from anyone with a heart for humanitarian activities.

RAISING AWARENESS FOR SAFER MIGRATION

Elohim Development Foundation (EDF), under the Civil Society Organizations Network on Migration and Development (CSONetMaDe), joined other partners for a community sensitization exercise at North Bank Market and North Bank Garage in Makurdi, Benue State.

The engagement focused on safe and irregular migration, human trafficking, and key signs to look out for in potential trafficking situations.

Through direct engagement with community members, the exercise provided practical information to help people better understand the risks associated with irregular migration, identify potential trafficking situations, and make safer, more informed decisions.

Building awareness at the community level is an important step toward preventing exploitation and promoting safer migration.

Starting the Week with Community Action

We start the week by celebrating the active Community Peace Committee (CPC) members of Alogani Community, Nasarawa State, under the Empowering Community Security ( ECOS Nigeria) Project.

Recognizing the challenges caused by the poor condition of the community road, the CPC mobilized local youths to voluntarily rehabilitate the road, improving access for farmers, traders, and other residents.

This initiative shows how community ownership, youth participation, cooperation, and collective action can strengthen peace and community resilience.

WHAT CHANGES WHEN WOMEN ARE EQUIPPED TO ENGAGE?

We rounded up our community engagements by training women and key stakeholders from Guma Local Government Area on political engagement and the operationalization of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Local Action Plan (LAP).

The conversation went beyond asking whether women participate in political and decision-making processes. It focused on what makes meaningful participation possible, and what women can do to strengthen their influence.

Participants explored the Local Action Plan (LAP) and connected its priorities to the realities of women in Guma. They examined the barriers limiting women’s participation, challenged assumptions around these barriers, and worked together to identify practical solutions.

The women also learned about stakeholder mapping and advocacy strategies, identifying key influencers, opportunities for engagement, and ways strategic advocacy can help advance issues affecting women.

By the end of the session, the discussion had moved from “What is the LAP?” to “What can we do with it?” Participants developed an action plan to guide their next steps.

This is the essence of operationalizing WPS: ensuring that local women understand the commitments, have the tools to engage, and are supported to turn those commitments into action.

WOMEN IN BURUKU TAKE ACTION ON POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT AND WPS

Today in Buruku Local Government Area, women came together for a practical training on political engagement and the operationalization of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Local Action Plan (LAP).

The session started with participants gaining a clear understanding of the LAP and how its priorities can be advanced at the local level. They then examined the realities affecting women’s participation in political and decision-making spaces, identifying the barriers that exist within their communities and discussing solutions they can pursue collectively.

Through stakeholder mapping and advocacy strategy sessions, participants identified the people and institutions that can influence change and explored practical approaches for engaging them effectively.

The women concluded the training by developing an action plan, outlining concrete steps for strengthening their political engagement and contributing to the implementation of the WPS LAP in Buruku.

TURNING LOCAL CHALLENGES INTO ACTION: WOMEN ADVANCE WPS IN KATSINA-ALA

Today, the EDF Team under the SPRiNG programme, carried out a one-day training for Women on the operationalization of the Katsina-Ala Local Action Plan which was launched earlier this year.

In Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, women are taking an active role in shaping practical pathways for advancing Women, Peace and Security (WPS) at the local level.

As part of the implementation of the Katsina-Ala Local Action Plan (LAP) on WPS, participants engaged in a practical training that enabled them to identify barriers limiting women’s meaningful participation in peacebuilding, decision-making, and political processes within their local context. In attendance was the first lady of Katsina-Ala LGA, Mrs Shaaku Dooshima Mercy, ably represented by Pastor Mrs Mue Grace Iveren.

Together, they explored locally relevant solutions and developed an action plan to guide collective efforts toward addressing these barriers. The training also covered stakeholder mapping and advocacy strategies, equipping participants to identify influential actors, build strategic relationships, communicate their priorities, and advocate effectively for greater inclusion of women in local decision-making.

Today, While in Katsina-Ala to implement distinct activities under the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (Nigeria Spring) Programme, EDF had the opportunity to connect with fellow programme partners, GoGreen Environmental Health Sustainability Initiatives and Foundation for Justice Development and Peace MKD - FJDP, FJDP Katsina-Ala Diocese .

Although each organization is delivering different interventions within the programme, we share a common commitment to advancing peace, resilience, inclusion, and sustainable community development.

The engagement provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships, exchange perspectives, and reinforce the importance of coordination and collaboration in achieving shared programme objectives.
