Only 7 out of 109 Nigerian Senate members & 22 of the 360 House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria members are women. Only 5 out of 25 state house of representatives members are women in Cross River state which boasts of the highest female representation across the 36 states in Nigeria.

Meaning less than 7% of our higher and lower legislative offices are held by women and less than 21% of our state assembly members are women. We join hands with Nigerians to ask the Nigerian Government to re-strategize on achieving a gender-inclusive governance system.

Less than 1% of the 2022 budget was allocated to women’s economic empowerment in a year that boasted of a gender-responsive budget.

This limits the inclusive and transformative process to position women and girls with the power and voice toward socio-economic development. We call on the to prioritize a gender-responsive budgeting framework in 2023 that allows for inclusive growth.
