In Ngetra, Gubio LGA, and Dalaram Community, Maiduguri, Pro-wellness Humanitarian Initiative continues to take action to improve child nutrition and strengthen caregivers’ knowledge of maternal, infant and young child nutrition.

Through our MIYCN activities and community screening, we are reaching mothers and caregivers with practical nutrition information while supporting the early identification of children who may need further attention.
Every screening is an opportunity to identify a need early.
Every counselling session is an opportunity to empower a caregiver.
Every community visit is a step towards healthier children and stronger families.

We continue to reach, listen, screen and support, because every child deserves the opportunity to grow healthy and thrive.

FROM LOCAL RESOURCES TO SUSTAINABLE NUTRITION

The solution to malnutrition is not always about what we bring into a community, but how we can empower communities to make better use of what they already have.

As part of our continuous efforts to prevent malnutrition before it manifests, our team brought caregivers together in Dalaram community for a practical session on the preparation of Tom Brown powder. Learning how to process locally available ingredients, to produce and prepare a nutritious meal.

But the real impact goes beyond the bowl.
It is in the knowledge transferred, the skills gained, and the confidence built among caregivers to continue preparing nutritious food for their children at home.

Malnutrition cannot be addressed through short-term support alone. Sustainable change happens when families are equipped with practical solutions they can access, afford and continue to use long after an intervention ends.

By building caregivers' capacity to make use of locally available resources, we are moving from dependency to ownership and from providing immediate support to strengthening sustainable household nutrition practices.
Because when communities have the knowledge and skills to sustain better nutrition, the impact continues long after the intervention ends.

Nutritious meals can start with the ingredients already available around us.

We recently held a practical cooking demonstration in Dalaram community, Maiduguri, aimed at equipping caregivers with the knowledge and skills to prepare nutritious meals that can support better nutrition for children.The session showcased how simple, locally available food items can be combined to prepare nutritious and balanced meals for children and families.

By promoting the use of foods that are accessible within the community, caregivers are better equipped to make affordable and sustainable choices that support better nutrition at home.
When caregivers have the right knowledge and skills, they can make a meaningful difference in the health and well-being of their children.

Today, our footsteps carried more than movement, they carried a message of hope.

As part of the World Breastfeeding Week 2026 commemoration, Pro-Wellness Humaniterian Initiative joined the Borno State Primary Healthcare Department agency and other partners for a road walk, taking the message of breastfeeding beyond health facilities and into the heart of our communities.

Every step was a call to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding, because when mothers are supported, children survive, grow, and thrive.
