SHE DID NOT CHOOSE THIS LIFE 💔

She was a girl when they took her.

They took away her home.
Her freedom.
Her childhood.
And eventually, they forced her into a marriage she never chose.

She became pregnant.

She gave birth to a child whose father was an armed man.

Then one day, she came home.

But home was no longer the same.

People whispered.

Some pointed fingers.

Some called her names.

And some looked at her innocent child and said, "That is a Boko Haram child."

But stop for a moment…

What did she choose?

Did she choose to be abducted?

Did she choose to be abused?

Did she choose that marriage?

Did that child choose who his father would be?

No.

She survived something most of us cannot imagine.

Yet after surviving the violence of captivity, she may have to fight another war the war of stigma, rejection, shame and loneliness.

At night, when everyone is asleep, she may still be fighting memories nobody can see.

And perhaps her greatest fear is not the past.

It is looking at her child and wondering:

"Will my child ever be accepted?"

That child is innocent.

He did not choose his father.

He did not choose the war.

He did not choose how he entered this world.

He deserves a childhood.
He deserves love.
He deserves education.
He deserves dignity.
He deserves a future.

And she deserves something too:

To be believed.
To be protected.
To be supported.
To be welcomed home.

She is not the crime that was committed against her.

Her child is not the crime.

They are survivors.

Let us stop making survivors carry the shame of crimes committed against them.

She survived the war.

Please don't let our stigma become another war. 💔
