Penultimate week of Div 2. A day with only 8-0 results!!!

Split Pins - Strike Force 0-8

Split Pins once again had difficulty in fielding a team, and had George Chircop sub for them. While he was in fact their best on the night with a 418, they struggled and lost all matches 601-638, 642-702 and 581-659. Strike Force had Tiziana Muscat Carannante in good form with a 517 to also be the high female bowler of the week.

Team Radical- BOV. 8-0
BOV needed points to stay in the hunt for 3rd place, while Radical needed to win at least 6 to stay ahead of 2nd placed MIA team 1 who had already won 8 points in their match against Ready Steady Bowl a few days earlier. Games were reasonably close, with game 1 being the least close one as Radical won 700-655. Games 2 and 3 were closer as 739-722 and 654-645 show, with the total going to Team Radical 2093-2022. Team Radical had young Kayden Zammit to thank as he shot a great 534 series which made him male bowler of the week, while Bjorn Tabone bowled a 519 for his team. Radical thus stay 5 points ahead of MIA team 1, as the 2 teams go head to head with Radical very much in command as only a 0-8 defeat will see them lose 1st place. BOV on the other hand fall to 4th, 6 points behind United We Bowl, meaning 3rd place will be an almost impossible task.

Vintage - MIA team 2. 8-0

With MIA team 2 again fielding a depleted team (3 bowlers this time), Vintage registered easy wins 622-534, 696-589, 611-580, and totals of 1929-1703, with Marthese Cossai being best with her 494 while George Camilleri bowling a 405 for MIA team 2.

Ready Steady Bowl - United We Bowl 0-8

RSB needed a sub, and they brought in Nick Mangion. However United We Bowl wanted the win much more in their hunt for 3rd place, and while game 1 was close 701-681, the rest went easily to United We Bowl, 689-611 and 676-618 with totals of 2066-1910. Nick was best for RSB with his 422, while Celianne Micallef shot a 467 to be best for her team.

MIA team 1 vs Lucky Strike 8-0

This was a must win for MIA team 1 to keep any hopes alive for 1st place, and they also needed a sub this week, with David Fenech coming in. They did win 8-0 as Lucky Strike were very much off form on the day, as scores of 696-556, 715-585, and 689-613, and a total of 2100 vs 1754, clearly show. Aaron Belli was best for MIA team 1 with a 489 and Joseph Zammit was best for his team with a 400.

One more match left to the end of the season.

Week 16. The top 2 keep marching on.

Vintage vs BOV 6-2

Vintage needed a sub on the day, and enlisted David Fenech. However it was Marthese Cossai who was the real driver behind their win, as her 536 series made her high for both her team as well as high female bowler of the week. Game 1 went the way of BOV, 684-640, but with the rest of the team improving in support of Marthese, games 2 (695-661)and 3 (710-630), as well as total (2045-1975), went to Vintage. Best for BOV was Gordon Genovese with a 472.

Strike Force vs MIA team 1, 1-7

Leaders MIA team 1 remain in 2nd place but now are 5 points behind leaders Radical, as they surprisingly drew the first game 618-618. This relative shock triggered MIA team 1 players and simply crushed their opponents 772-620, 818-661, 2208-1899. Charles Farrugia shot a great 554 series for the leaders, while Tiziana Muscat Carannante shot a 492 to be highest for Lucky Strike.

Lucky Strike vs United We Bowl 0-8.

Game 1 was close with a 697-676 score in favour of United We Bowl. Game 2 saw a great team effort by United We Bowl as a 772-620 result shows, and while game 3 saw United We Bowl drop to a 654, it was more than enough to overcome the 605 of Lucky Strike. Adriano Busuttil bowled well for Lucky Strike with a 465 scratch series (so an average of 30 pins more than his current average!) while Celianne Micallef bowled a 492 to end up highest for United We Bowl. With this win and BOV losing, United We Bowl move to just 2 points behind 3rd placed BOV.

Team Radical vs Split Pins8-0

Team Radical keep struggling in their first game and this time it was no exception. In fact they were losing the game at the start of the last frame, but somehow managed to find the required strikes to clinch it 699-676. Games 2 and 3 were somewhat easier and scores of 737-674 and 712-621. 2148 - 1971. Mikhail Mallia shot a 568 for the winners, claiming also high bowler of the week in the process, while Milos Kojic shot a 450 to again be best for his team.

MIA team 2 - Ready Steady Bowl. 0-8

MIA team 2 again had difficulties in fielding bowlers, and this week they managed just 2 bowlers. With 2 blinds, it is almost impossible to win, and scores of 558-645, 538-640, 533-617, and a total of 1629 vs 1902 clearly demonstrate the gap. 2 bowlers for Ready Steady Bowl shot a 398 to be best for their team ( Donna Vella and Vanessa Portainier) while Jean Marie Darmanin bowled a 353 for MIA team 2.

With MIA team 1 already having bowled and won the next fixture (8 -0 vs Lucky Strike) in a make up, all eyes are on Radical who need to win as many points as possible in their next match against BOV to stay ahead, before the last match which is a direct clash against MIA team 1.

Week 15 and the race for promotion is becoming more and more of a 2 horse race, as BOV are now 22 points adrift of 1st place with 24 points remaining.

Ready Steady Bowl - Lucky Strike 6-2
A good win for RSB that allows them to come close to Lucky Strike as they attempt to overtake them and take 7th place. Game 1 went the way of RSB (686-605); Game 2 saw Lucky Strike bowl another 605 which was enough this time to win 2 points against the 591 of RSB. RSB then probably thought.. lets bowl more than 605, and we will win... so they shot a 611, which was in fact enough as Lucky Strike went even lower to a 557. Jake Reed was best with his 393 for the winners while Lucky Strike had Joseph Zammit as highest with a 429.

MIA team 2 (absent) - Split Pins 0-8. MIA team 2 were a no show, so Split Pins were presented with a golden opportunity to finally get away from last place. This they did with ease as they were comfortably ahead of the required target. 660, 604, 654 and 1918 were enough for all 8 points. Milos Kojic shot 435 to be highest for his team.

Strike Force- Team Radical. 2-6,

Leaders Radical dropped 2 points and could have easily dropped 4 in this match. Their seemingly dominant form has been inconsistent over the last few matches and this has allowed MIA team 1 to close the gap. Game 1 went to Radical 607-574; Radical then bowled another low 601, which allowed Strike Force to run away with that game as they bowled 688. The last game meant that Radical needed to win, and win by a lot to also win the total.. They did rally to a good 728-673 to win game 3 with ease; the total was VERY close and went to Radical by a solitary pin.. 1936-1935. A 487 from Paul Gray was best for Radical, while Tiziana Muscat Carannante shot a 514 to be best for her team as well as high female bowler of the week.

MIA team 1 vs BOV 8-0
This was the very last chance BOV had to get closer to the top 2 positions; however the day was not theirs as all 4 bowlers struggled to bowl their best. 695-645, 696-638, 776-683 , 2167-1966 show clearly the extent by which MIA team 1 triumphed, and are now just 4 points away from leaders Radical. Aaron Belli was in splendid form with a great 580, that also made him high bowler of the week. Best for BOV was Gordon Genovese with a 463.

Vintage- United We Bowl 6-2

Unfortunately for United We Bowl, they only had 3 bowlers available and with them having used all the allocated subs, they had to use a blind. Game 1 as expected went to Vintage 672-631, though United We Bowl still put up a decent fight. Game 2 in fact caught Vintage by surprise, as they shot a 665 that was more than matched by a 697 from 3 man team United We Bowl, as Celianne Micallef rocked in with a 212 game. Unfortunately for United We Bowl, this joy was short lived as game 3 saw them fall to a 583 with Vintage playing a 707 to secure 6 points. Best for Vintage was Marthese Cossai, fresh from her Gold Cup win, with a 464, while Celianne was of course highest for her team with a 499.
