Through its work on gender-responsive governance, UNFPA India, supports The Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) in initiatives supporting initiatives like the Women & Girl Friendly Panchayat (WGFP), advancing women’s leadership and building safer, more inclusive communities.

This reel captures a meaningful exchange at the grassroots, where Kriti Sanon, Honorary Ambassador for Gender Equality, UNFPA India, engaged with Mahila Sarpanches from Madhya Pradesh—listening to their experiences, reflecting on their journeys, and spotlighting how women-led governance is driving real change for women and girls.

National Panchayati Raj Day
April 24

20/04/2026

UNFPA India's Honorary Ambassador for Gender Equality, Kriti Sanon ( ), visited Bhopal to meet the students, leaders, and frontline workers championing the rights of women and girls in Madhya Pradesh.

She sat with students at Subhash Excellence School, where UMANG (School Health & Wellness Programme) is focusing on providing young people with life-skills training, nutrition and hygiene information, mental health awareness, social issues communication and mutual respect. And where UJJWAL (Positive Masculinity Module) is helping teenage boys question gender stereotypes and choose equality. 🏫

She met women Sarpanches, elected village leaders, building libraries, running ambulance services, and declaring their villages child marriage-free. Over 53% of Sarpanch positions in MP are now held by women. 🏛️

She visited Bhopal's Mahila Thana, India's first ISO-certified police station dedicated entirely to the safety of women and children, where every case is handled with dignity and care. 🚔

These are the people driving real change, every single day.

Proud to build this alongside the Government of Madhya Pradesh, ( .mygov) one community at a time. ✊

On her first field visit to Madhya Pradesh, UNFPA India Honorary Ambassador Kriti Sanon spent the day in Bhopal ✨

At Government Subhash Excellence Higher Secondary School 🎒, she met students from across schools—where classrooms are shaping young people into gender advocates 💬 through life-skills education, conversations on positive masculinity 🤝, and the confidence to find their voice 🗣️

She engaged with Mahila Sarpanches from across districts 👩‍💼 under the Women and Girl Friendly Gram Panchayat initiative—where local governance is becoming more gender responsive 🌱 and enabling every girl to recognise her own potential 🌟

At a Mahila Thana 🚓, she met survivors of gender-based violence, civil society representatives, and girls from the community—where systems of safety and support are put into action every day 🛡️🧡

Together with the Government of Madhya Pradesh 🤝, UNFPA India is supporting efforts that are strengthening gender equality across classrooms, communities, and institutions 🌍✨
