If you were a puppet, what would you look like? 🎭

Think about it for a second!

That’s what students in Adhyayan’s Read Aloud program were asked, and the answers, we’re told, were wonderful.

This is what an English language learning session can look like when it starts with imagination instead of grammar. A question that has no wrong answer. A book that opens into a conversation. Children who are suddenly very, very willing to speak.🌱

There’s a layer of the education system that rarely gets talked about: the Block and Cluster Resource Persons and School Complex Leaders who sit between district officials and school heads, and provide support to the schools they work with.

In Dhalai District, Tripura, 55 BRPs and CRPs and 54 Complex Leaders came together recently for refresher training, sharpening their skills in school improvement planning, support visits, and evidence collection. We’re very thankful for the leaders’ active participation!

When the people who support schools are well-supported themselves, the schools they serve get better 🌱

Nishtha Kapoor from our team was recently invited to speak at the Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation’s SEASAT Youth Camp in Taipei.

Every year, the camp brings together young leaders from across South, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand for a four-day conference to talk about regional challenges and foster partnership between leaders — Nishtha first took part as a 2019 alumni fellow and returned this year as a speaker and mentor.

She spoke on “Shaping Inclusive Futures in Asia: Driving Social Change through Leadership,” reflecting on what it actually takes to make leadership and opportunity more inclusive across the region — moving beyond intent to the practical choices that shape who gets access and a seat at the table. Her session encouraged delegates to think about inclusion not as an afterthought, but as something that has to be designed into systems and institutions from the start, and to consider what role young leaders themselves can play in driving that change forward.

Nishtha works on curating and championing practitioner knowledge at Adhyayan, supporting government school leaders in sharing their learnings and practices with each other. She finds it important to make learning joyful and engaging, and brings this lens into a lot of the work that she does 💛 😊

When GSS Nimte in Arunachal Pradesh had only 17 students enrolled, the school didn’t wait for families to come back on their own. They went to the community instead. They sat with parents, listened to their concerns, and worked with Block and Cluster officials, School Management Committee members, and the wider community to address them together.

It wasn’t a quick fix. It was a relationship, built deliberately over time.

Today, after a year, 94 students are enrolled at GSS Nimte, and more are coming. Mr. Nabam Nacho’s leadership as Complex Leader, the involvement of The Citizen Foundation in beautifying the school, and the sustained commitment of the SMC all played their part.

Across India, private schools are opening faster than ever. And parents, wanting the best for their children, stretch themselves thin to afford them, when the schools do not necessarily provide better quality eudcation. When communities and government school leaders talk, schools can rise to serve the people they are meant for ☀️

We’re growing — and we’re hiring across three states.
Adhyayan is looking for people to join our field teams in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Delhi. These are roles for people who want to work close to the ground — in schools, with school complexes, alongside district officials — doing the slow, important work of reviews, trainings, and building systems that last.

📌 Senior Program Associate, Training & Quality Assurance — Arunachal Pradesh
📌 Program Associate — Tripura
📌 Program Manager — Tripura
📌 Program Associate — Delhi

If you believe systemic change in education happens through relationships and rigour — not just programs — we’d love to hear from you.

When teachers get to learn together, classrooms get better. 📚

In Chawmanu Block, Tripura, teachers from the Dhanyaram Sub-Complex came together for a professional learning session — exploring practical strategies for multigrade classrooms, multilingual teaching, lesson planning, and classroom observation.

The strategies weren’t handed down from above. They were designed around what teachers had actually experienced in their own schools — which meant the conversations were real, and the takeaways were practical.

A room full of teachers learning from each other. That’s where school improvement begins. 🌱

New drills. New skills. New reasons to show up to learn. ⚽

Through Field Connect, students in Goa’s government schools are discovering football, and in the process, discovering a lot about themselves too. Confidence, teamwork, the satisfaction of getting something right after getting it wrong.

The field is its own kind of classroom. Swipe to see what’s been happening 👉

Lots of gratitude to DMI Finance for supporting Field Connect in Goa

We’re hiring an Associate, Knowledge Systems & AI to help us build and maintain the digital infrastructure that connects practitioners across India’s government schools to the right resources, at the right time.

This role works across three platforms: a practitioner knowledge repository, an LMS (Abhyaas), and a WhatsApp AI assistant — curating content, managing platform operations, testing AI responses, tracking engagement, and making sure everything works the way it should for the people using it.

It’s a role for someone who is organised and detail-oriented, comfortable with digital tools and AI, and genuinely interested in what happens when education meets technology.

We’re looking for someone with 3–5 years in HR or People roles, a strong grounding in Indian labour law and statutory compliance, and a genuine belief that mission-driven organisations deserve people systems that match their ambition.

What does it take for an entire state’s government schools to start improving — together?

In Goa, we’ve been finding out. Since 2018, every government school in the state has been part of a school improvement program that asks a simple but powerful question: what is this school good at, and what does it want to work on?

From that question, a lot follows. Swipe 🌱

Thank you Mastek Foundation and Jalander Satpute for supporting this work
