The genesis of ISKCON Food Relief Foundation’s dates back to 1974, when Srila Prabhupada (Founder of ISKCON) was looking out from his room at an ISKCON temple in Mayapur. He noticed a group of village children fighting with street dogs over scraps of food. Shocked and saddened by what he saw, Srila Prabhupada turned to his disciples and said, “No one within a ten mile radius of
our temples should go hungry”. When the Government of India launched a strategic program in 1994 called the Midday Meal Scheme to fight two of the most pressing problems of India – hunger and illiteracy, ISKCON Food Relief Foundation saw a great opportunity for providing children with the right nutrition to support their education. The Midday Meal Project is being implemented by Annamrita Foundation, previously known as ISKCON Food Relief Foundation under the name of ‘annamrita’ which means “Food as Pure as Nectar”. We strive to serve food to children, with the same love and devotion that a mother displays towards her child. These meals are prepared in specially designed, hi-tech ISO certified Annamrita kitchens & are then transported through our vehicles to various schools across cities. Annamrita has resolved to liberate the underprivileged children from the vicious cycle of hunger and illiteracy by serving them with sanctified and nutritious Satvik Ahaar that helps them with the right nutrition in their formative years. To many, annamrita is the sole source to their only complete meal that they have access to during the entire day. This project has produced dramatic results in terms of increased enrolment at schools, retained attendance levels, reduced drop out rates and attention spans. We sincerely seek your support in reaching out the annamrita program to more and more children across various states. Offc hrs: Mon to Fri - 9:30am to 6pm
