Protsahan India Foundation is an organisation working to empower girl children from difficult backgrounds of poverty, violence and abuse to access quality education, healthcare and gender justice through direct action on ground in communities and through systemic change via advocacy and research. It empowers children and stakeholders to create a future full of possibilities where children and adolescent girls, both survivors and those at risk of abuse, find an environment conducive to their safety, healing and growth using art & technology. Protsahan’s work with adolescent girls has never stopped with the girl.

When a girl lives with violence, her healing cannot be separated from the family, home and poverty she returns to every evening.

So alongside our Girl Champions, we work closely with their families. We support mothers and young women navigating domestic violence, economic distress, social isolation and years of adversity, with survivor-centred care ❤️‍🩹 rooted in the realities of urban ultra-poverty.

Inside the same Girl Empowerment Centres 🏠 where daughters learn, heal and build agency, their mothers come together too.

Feminist circles of hope and solidarity. Spaces where women can speak without judgement, understand their rights, access support, and slowly build lives with greater safety and choice 🌼🌼

Because supporting an adolescent girl also means strengthening the world immediately around her ❤️‍🩹

Sometimes, the journey of a Girl Champion begins with her mother finding her own voice again.

Join us at Dialogues on Development Management at ISDM | Indian School of Development Management on 8 October. We’ll be talking about something the social sector spends surprisingly little time talking about: what it actually takes to run a social purpose organisation.

Governance. Management. People. Resources. Accountability. And the strange expectation that because the mission is noble, somehow the organisation will manage itself.

Spoiler: it will not.

Building for social change needs more than good intent. It needs leaders willing to ask uncomfortable questions about how we make decisions, hold standards, and build organisations capable of carrying the work. Looking forward to a conversation that goes beyond the mission statement and into the machinery that makes the mission possible.

Our Tripura cohort brings together counsellors from 43 Child Care Institutions across all 8 districts: Dhalai, Gomati, Khowai, Unakoti, Sepahijala, North Tripura, South Tripura and West Tripura.

At the heart ♥️ of this capacity building work are the principles of the Juvenile Justice framework: what do dignity, safety, participation and best interest look like in everyday care for a Child in Need of Care and Protection and a Child in Conflict with Law?

Through CareVerse Learning Academy modules, real cases and scenario reflections, counsellors are engaging deeply with trauma-responsive counselling across disability, CNCP and CCL, POCSO, psychosocial first aid and counselling ethics.

One exercise asked counsellors to visualise a child-friendly CCI first through a child’s eyes, then through their own. The gap between the two became the conversation.

The learning is happening across Bangla, Hindi and English. Context matters. Language matters. Proximate leaders bring knowledge that the training rooms must listen to too.

And between neuroscience and child protection, we are learning some fabulous local music. 😊🎶 Kokborok literally carries the soul of this part of India.

A child does not heal simply because an adult knows the right protocol. Healing begins when a child experiences safety, connection and the feeling: “You see me. You hear me. I matter here.” ♥️🌿🌺

Child protection cannot be complete without social protection.

Our Girl Champions are leading linkages camps within their own communities, helping families and their ecosystem connect with government welfare schemes. When families have access to social protection, economic vulnerability does not push girls back into situations of adverse childhood experiences.

When girls know their rights, they can help their communities access theirs too.

A day of training, learning and exchanging notes with 25 incredible LGBTQIA+ organisations building change from the ground up.

And perhaps, somewhere beneath all our frameworks, strategies and plans, the work keeps returning to something deeply human.

The freedom to love.
The freedom to belong.
The freedom to live without having to explain or defend who you are.

In Manipur, child protection functionaries are responding to children and families affected by grassroots violence, displacement and loss. CareVerse brings the practitioner knowledge of childhood trauma into everyday child protection practice for caregivers through structured frameworks and video modules through AI learning. Through case-based learning and guided reflection, frontline functionaries examine how trauma can shape a child’s behaviour, communication and recovery, while also recognising the emotional demands of their own work.

The aim is practical: strengthen the upskiling and capacity of the existing grassroots child protection workforce to make more trauma-responsive decisions for children, while building a community of practice across the system. Thank you Pradip sir and Child Rights functionaries of the state who participated with so much love, intention and curiousity. We are better as a team, because we had an opportunity like this to meet incredible people in Manipur.

In our work with girls who have lived through severe adversities, we keep learning this again and again: care does not always begin with an easy answer. Most days, it only begins with making enough space for her story.

To speak at her own pace, to not be interrupted, to not be immediately advised, questioned or “fixed”.

Sometimes, being heard is where healing simply begins for a survivor.

Some of the richest CareVerse conversations in Assam happened with colleagues from Shishu Greh, Kamrup.

A Specialized Adoption Agency caring for children who have experienced abandonment, separation and loss. We spoke with caregivers about what sits beneath a child’s behaviour. About attachment. Rejection. Grief. Fear. And why adoption cannot be understood only as a legal process. For a child, it is also an emotional journey.

The conversation kept returning to one question: what does a child need from the adults around them before they can begin to trust again?

Since 2004, Shishu Greh, run by Assam Child and Women’s Welfare Society, has worked across care, protection and adoption, alongside the child protection system in Assam.

CareVerse is taking us into spaces like these because trauma-responsive child protection cannot live only in training rooms. It has to reach the adults who hold children through their most uncertain days.

Deeply grateful for the candour, questions and exchange in Kamrup, Assam.
