Some of the richest CareVerse conversations in Assam happened with colleagues from Shishu Greh, Kamrup.

A Specialized Adoption Agency caring for children who have experienced abandonment, separation and loss. We spoke with caregivers about what sits beneath a child’s behaviour. About attachment. Rejection. Grief. Fear. And why adoption cannot be understood only as a legal process. For a child, it is also an emotional journey.

The conversation kept returning to one question: what does a child need from the adults around them before they can begin to trust again?

Since 2004, Shishu Greh, run by Assam Child and Women’s Welfare Society, has worked across care, protection and adoption, alongside the child protection system in Assam.

CareVerse is taking us into spaces like these because trauma-responsive child protection cannot live only in training rooms. It has to reach the adults who hold children through their most uncertain days.

CareVerse capacity building | Guwahati Cohort, Assam | 24-25th Aug 2026

ASHA didis, CWC and JJB members from Kamrup Metropolitan, Guwahati including students of psychiatric social work and child psychology came together with us to go deeper into taking action to support the mental health counselling and community psychiatry needs of children facing violence, distress and vulnerability.

Because a child’s behaviour is often telling us something her words cannot yet say. Training focused on measuring critical baselines and way forward on building sector capacities on system convergence and on psychological first aid. The group reflected on difficult case scenarios, arts based therapeutic approaches to healing & decoding trauma imprints of an affected child.

Thank you Assam SCPCR, for this meaningful partnership. There is much work ahead.

And perhaps, as Assam’s most beloved cultural icon reminds us through his timeless music, some journeys are meant to be walked together for long. Time keeps moving on, quietly. Through the length and breadth of the clock…. this work on trauma responsive care should go on…. ❤️‍🩹

Imphal, Manipur | 21–22 August 2026 | CareVerse by Protsahan ❤️‍🩹

SJPU officials from Imphal East, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts present case studies on recognising trauma in children: reading non-verbal signs, shifts in behaviour, and what a child may be communicating without words.

This is translated into grassroots child protection and community psychiatric practice to unlock agency, ❤️‍🩹 and child mental health support services.

Because better decisions begin when we stop asking only, “What is wrong with this child?” and start asking, “What might this child have lived through that we’re missing in the psychological first aid (PFA)?”

Today in Imphal, frontline child protection workers from across Manipur — including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Chandel, Kamjong, Kangpokpi, Noney, Pherzawl, Senapati, Tamenglong, Tengnoupal and Ukhrul — mapped the systems they rely on, learnt what sustained fear and violence can do to a child’s developing brain, and practised Psychological First Aid and arts-based approaches that can travel into hard-to-reach communities.

Repeated exposure to children’s violence, grief and distress can affect the frontline worker too. Vicarious trauma can show up as exhaustion, withdrawal, hypervigilance or emotional numbing.

Several workers ticked the same response in our baseline assessment:

“I feel numb. I finish the work without feeling much about it.”

We cannot build trauma-responsive child protection by teaching workers only what trauma does to a child. We must help them recognise what carrying that trauma can do to them.

CareVerse is built on this premise: India needs a frontline child protection workforce that understands the neuroscience of trauma, can use Psychological First Aid in practice, and receives the support needed to keep caring without becoming numb to the work.

...तब ही तो ज़माना बदलेगा। 🚀

Over three days, 200+ government officials and frontline child protection professionals from 12 districts of Bihar came together for a CareVerse capacity-building journey by Protsahan.

Together, they explored trauma-responsive care, mental health, and stronger convergence for children, especially those growing up in the most underserved communities, including Musahar settlements.

From asking difficult questions to understanding the science of trauma and mental health, the workshop brought together representatives from Mission Vatsalya, Mission Shakti, ICDS, the Department of Women and Child Development, DCPU, CHILDLINE, education, health, and justice systems.

At the H.E.A.R.T of every strong child protection system is a caregiver who chooses to keep showing up. When caregivers feel seen, supported, and equipped, children have a better chance to heal.

Across Bihar, strengthening child protection depends on one thing above all else: convergence.

During the capacity-building workshop, ICDS officers and frontline child protection professionals reflected on how Mission Poshan, Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres (NRCs), Anganwadi services, Bihar Government’s Parwarish Yojana, DCPU, CHILDLINE 1098, Railway Child Help Desks, DLSA, and schools can work together to ensure that no child falls through the cracks.

Participants from Motihari, East and West Champaran, and other districts shared powerful field experiences. Stories of children rescued through 1098 and railway interventions, linked to DCPU and DLSA, reunited with their families through sustained counselling, connected to Anganwadi and NRCs for severe malnutrition, enrolled under the Parwarish Scheme after repeated follow-ups, and finally reintegrated into school after dropping out.

One participant spoke about pursuing a government entitlement of just ₹1,400, requiring four separate follow-ups before the family finally received support. Another reflected on how addressing child labour, malnutrition, school dropout, and family vulnerability is rarely solved by one department alone. It demands persistence, coordination, and shared ownership across systems.

The workshop was grounded in the practice to evidence journeys from the grassroots, by the grassroots and for the grassroots that child protection is built through relationships as much as policies. When health, nutrition, education, social protection, and justice systems work together with consistency, children have a far greater chance of returning not just to safety, but to learning, health, and a future with dignity & healing. ❤️‍🩹

Child protection officers from districts across , including Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Patna, Vaishali, Bhojpur, Supaul, Purnia, West Champaran, Sheohar, and Madhubani, came together to strengthen how public systems work for children.

The workshop created space for reflection on what meaningful convergence looks like in practice for cases of sexual and gender based violence. Participants explored how Mission Vatsalya, Mission Shakti, ICDS, and the Department of Women and Child Development can work more closely together, with clearer referral pathways, stronger coordination, and shared accountability for children’s safety and wellbeing.

When frontline professionals learn together across departments, they build more than knowledge and strengthen the system. They build relationships, trust, and a common language for protecting children. That is what makes public systems more responsive to the realities children and families face every day.

Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can offer another person is hope made visible. ❤️‍🩹

As they begin their own professional journeys, young leaders from Adobe came together to leave behind messages of hope, encouragement, and solidarity for the girls at Protsahan.

Together, they painted exam boards filled with dreams, courage, and possibility. Every brushstroke carried a simple reminder:

"You matter. Your story is still unfolding. Keep going."

Because hope grows when it is shared.

Meet Stuti, one of our trauma-informed resource persons, who returns each year with the same warmth, patience, and belief in every girl she meets.

Through puppet mask making, , , , and , she creates gender transformative spaces where girls can imagine, wonder, reflect, express themselves, process emotions that are often hard to put into words, and simply be. She is more than a facilitator for Protsahan. She is a teacher, a storyteller, and a trusted adult who reminds every girl that her voice, ideas, and creativity matter.

Thank you, Stuti, for walking alongside Protsahan for so over a decade now! Thank you for your friendship, your steady presence, and for making every tough Delhi summer a season of belonging, learning, healing, and joy.
