Growing up is a journey filled with questions, emotions, changes and sometimes uncertainty—for children and parents alike.

We recently held a Parents’ Workshop on “Growing Up Together”, focusing on supporting children and adolescents through puberty, emotional changes, behaviour, and healthy sexual development.

Around 20 parents, along with members of our staff team, came together for an honest and thought-provoking conversation. The session helped us pause, reflect and perhaps even jolt our thinking about how we respond to situations that may sometimes feel difficult or unfamiliar.
Because supporting a child through growing up is not about having all the answers. It is about being patient, empathetic and calm. It is about creating an environment where a child feels safe enough to communicate their questions, concerns and experiences without fear of judgement.
And sometimes, it is simply about being there to help carry their baggage—until they are ready and equipped to carry it themselves.

When we listen with empathy, respond with understanding and make space for open conversations, we help our children navigate growing up with greater confidence, dignity and trust.

Growing up together means learning together. Listening together. And walking alongside each other.

From experience to insight: What 18 years of working with autism has taught us
At Ashish, we believe expertise is not just about what we know.
It is about what we learn every day from children, young adults, families, educators, therapists and communities.
Over the years, our work has taught us that inclusion cannot be created through awareness alone.

It requires us to ask:
→ What does participation actually look like?
→ Are we creating opportunities or simply providing services?
→ Are young adults developing meaningful social roles?
→ Are families being supported to imagine possibilities beyond limitations?
→ Are communities changing—or are we simply asking people with disabilities to adapt?

Our work across education, therapy, vocational development, employment and community participation continues to shape these questions.
The most valuable content we create should come from the work we actually do—and the lessons we continue to learn.

Because expertise becomes meaningful when it is shared.

Words don't just describe people. They shape how we see them.

“Suffering.”
“Burden.”
“Special.”
“Normal.”
“High functioning.”

And sometimes, even: “Inspirational.” “Determined.” “Differently abled.”

But does changing the word always change the way we see the person?

Our latest article explores the Language of Care vs. the Language of Respect—and why disabled people don't need to be pitied, softened, glorified or turned into inspiration.

They need to be seen, heard, respected and included.

Because support should expand a person's world—not define it.

Why the words we use about disability shape how we see—and treat—people There is a sentence we hear often in disability spaces: “They need so much care.” It sounds compassionate. But what happens when care becomes the primary lens through which we see a person? A child becomes someone who ne...

Therapy at Ashish Foundation supports children and young adults with autism in building communication, mobility, and independence.

While we do have a therapy space, it needs better infrastructure, equipment, sensory tools, and structured resources to truly meet their needs.

We’re upgrading it into a fully equipped, sensory-friendly Therapy Room — and we need your support.

Help us create a space where every milestone matters.

Freedom, For Every One

The flag flies high in open air,
A symbol won through love and care.
Through trials past and nights of pain,
We rise, we dream, we live again.

But freedom’s promise asks us too,
To make a place for me and you.
Where every voice is heard with pride,
And no one is left standing outside.

This Independence Day, let freedom be
A world of choice, dignity and equality. 🇮🇳

Happy Independence Day!

Different contexts. Common aspirations.

Different abilities. Different journeys. Different support needs.

Yet every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, choose, contribute, work, connect and belong.

Let's look beyond labels and create opportunities for young people to take on valued roles in their families, workplaces and communities.

Because our contexts may be different, but our aspirations connect us all.

Happy International Youth Day!
