As comes to a close, we are leaving Cork with new insights, fresh ideas and valuable learning that will inform our work across Roscommon.
Over the past two days, discussions explored community resilience, climate adaptation, rural development, social cohesion, participation and belonging.
One message emerged consistently:
Strong communities are built through local leadership, participation and partnership.
Thank you to the Local Development Companies Network, all speakers, delegates and organisers who made the conference such a valuable experience.
The conversations may have concluded, but our work continues.

Today, our CEO Martina Earley moderated a panel discussion on Rural Economies and LEADER at the Local Development Companies Network Annual Conference in Cork.

It was a great opportunity to share ideas and explore the role of LEADER in supporting rural communities and economies. Thanks to the LDCN and everyone who took part in the discussion.

Twelve Transition Year & 5th year students from Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown, attended the Safe Tractor Driving Awareness Training Programme at Carrick Showgrounds, Carrick-on-Shannon, on Thursday, 1st October.

Organised by Roscommon LEADER Partnership with funding from the Department of Agriculture, the one-day programme offered students an interesting opportunity to develop their awareness of tractor safety and responsible practices on the farm.

Farm safety is particularly relevant in our rural community, and the programme provided a valuable learning experience beyond the classroom. Many thanks to Roscommon LEADER Partnership and the training team for making this opportunity available to our students.

Delighted to support this important community project in Arigna and to see it progressing. 👏

📢

The AREA Committee are delighted to share another significant milestone in the development of Arigna Community Park.

Construction on the new dressing rooms and public toilets will commence next week! This phase is starting later than originally planned, but the delay was necessary to revise the design so that public toilets can be accessed 24 hours a day—a feature that required additional planning and approval.

This progress has only been made possible through the support of the Roscommon LEADER Programme, private donations from individuals with Arigna connections and the incredible generosity of everyone who contributed to our ongoing AREA Lotto fundraiser. Your support continues to drive this project forward.

We also extend our sincere thanks to all local clubs who have been renting the astro facility. The income generated is playing a vital role in meeting our matched‑funding requirements and covering essential running costs such as insurance and electricity.

Work will also begin in the coming weeks on extending the current walking track. This upgrade will be completed in time for the long, dark winter evenings—so there’ll be no excuse not to get out and enjoy the fully lit track.

The extension will be delivered in two phases:

Phase 1 will be completed in coming weeks with phase 2 once the dressing room facility is completed.

Behind the scenes, work continues on finalising the playground design and appointing a contractor. The target is to have this exciting addition completed in early 2027, bringing even more amenities for everyone in our community to enjoy.

The astro and walking track remain free of charge for public use, and this will not change as new facilities are added. From the beginning, our vision has been to create an inclusive recreational space with something for everyone. With works commencing next week, we are firmly on track to deliver the fully completed Community Park by Q2 2027.
