Connect Laois will be taking part in a Social Enterprise Forum this month, sharing information and advice on what is involved in setting up a business whose primary aim is improving people's lives. The forum will take place at the Dunamaise Arts Centre on Thursday, September 17th, from 9.30am to 1.30pm. Our Enterprise and Training Officer Liam Ramsbottom will be taking part in a panel discussion on the day focusing on leadership in social enterprise and will also give a presentation on funding opportunities. Over a series of three sessions, Niamh will show participants how to create colourful and eye-catching mask designs. Several groups across the county were recently supported by our Tús Scheme, who provided much needed equipment to St Paul's Vestry Mountmellick, Mountmellick GAA, Treo Nua in Portlaoise, Rosenallis GAA, Ballyfin Graveyard, and SVP Mountrath. The scheme also supports unemployed people to take up work placements with community and voluntary organisations in Laois, with participants gaining valuable experience in the workplace which in some cases can lead to fulltime employment. Connect Laois is proud to support this year’s Laois Community & Voluntary Awards, where we are once again sponsoring the Social Inclusion Award, which celebrates the incredible efforts of community groups who devote so much of their time to building a strong and vibrant society where everyone is made to feel welcome, respected and included.
The highlight of the awards programme will be the Laois Community & Voluntary Awards Gala Ceremony, which will take place on Friday, 13th November 2026, at the Midlands Park Hotel where nominees and guests from across the county will come together to celebrate the remarkable achievements of local volunteers.
