Our Laois branch of Guide Dogs are part of Irish Guide guide dogs association National charity, the Guide Dogs are looking forward to celebrating 50 in of Guide Dogs Ireland along with 40 yrs of Guide dogs in Laois when a branch was inaugurated from a meeting that was held in the Hare and Hound bar attended by a small number of people. The first person to have a Guide Dog in Laois was Michael Costello when he got his dog Tara back in 1991, who had many years of companion ship in guiding Michael throught out his years with Tara.We as volunteers have raised quiet an amount of money over the years to support the training centre in Cork so as blind people can have a life chang experience with their Guide dog. The Laois branch have grown over the years with 18 people on our Whats app group who are willing to help with various events that need volunteers i take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for our loyalty over many years since Mrs Mary Dunlop and Jim Dennithy first set up an organisation to train Guide Dogs later officially calling it Irish Guide dogs for the blind so here we are today 50 yrs on ,as our Laois branch still supports the headquarters in Co Cork and long may we continue. We wish all our supporters and volunteers a very happy Christmas and indeed a properous new year in 2026 and a hugh Thank you to one and all.
