Ballylinan GAA Club is set to mark a truly historic milestone this year as our club celebrates 100 years since its official affiliation with Laois GAA—a century of community, commitment, and Gaelic games at the heart of our Village.
The centenary celebrations will begin on Saturday, April 18th, exactly 100 years on from the date in 1926 when Ballylinan was formally affiliated at a meeting of Laois County Board. That moment, recorded in the minutes of that meeting held in Portlaoise on Sunday 18th April 1926, laid the foundation for generations of players, members, volunteers, and supporters who have since worn the green and gold with pride.
To honour this landmark occasion, a commemorative parade will take place through the village, bringing together past and present members of the club. The parade will assemble at Ballylinan National School, very near to where our first playing field was, at 5pm before making its way to Ballylinan GAA Grounds—a symbolic journey linking the past, present, and future of the club.
All former and current players, officers, members, and supporters are warmly invited to take part in what promises to be a memorable and nostalgic occasion. The parade will serve not only as a celebration of the club’s proud history but also as a tribute to the people who have kept Ballylinan GAA at the centre of community life for a full century.
From humble beginnings in 1926 to the vibrant club it is today, Ballylinan GAA has played a vital role in promoting Gaelic football, fostering local pride, and bringing generations together in our area. Over the decades, countless volunteers have given their time and energy, while players of all ages have represented our Village with passion and determination.
The centenary celebrations will provide an opportunity to reflect on those achievements, remember those who contributed along the way, and look ahead to the next 100 years. The club is encouraging everyone attending the parade to wear their Ballylinan colours, adding to the sense of unity and occasion on the day.
As Ballylinan GAA Club steps into its second century, the parade on April 18th will stand as a powerful reminder of where it all began—and
