DIST-Digital Strength - VET against Cyber Violence

🚫Cyberbullying doesn't stop at the school gate—it follows learners into every digital space.

🫡Creating safe, respectful online environments is now a priority for education, especially in Vocational Education and Training (VET).

🔐🌐As part of the DIST Project, each transnational partner has invited leading experts in cyber violence and digital safety to contribute articles that explore the many forms of technology-facilitated abuse and the challenges they present.

🔦This week's spotlight features Federica Casula's insightful article, "Safer Digital Spaces in VET: Why Countering Cyberbullying is a Priority Today."

➡The article explores why tackling cyberbullying is essential in vocational education and training, highlighting the importance of fostering inclusive, respectful, and safe digital learning environments where all learners can thrive.

Article excerpt: "In an era in which everything is extensively digitised, VET can also benefit from new possibilities by integrating digital learning. This evolution brings with it both the resources and the risks of a new space and a new mode of learning. The most emblematic risk of this transition is cyberbullying, a form of coercion and oppression perpetrated through the use of social media and internet. Analogous to the traditional bullying described by Olweus in 1996, it is characterised by intentionality, persistence over time, power asymmetry and a profoundly social nature, while at the same time possessing distinctive features of its own that significantly amplify its effects on both mental health and learning."

➡ Collaborating with a multi-region team of project officers, educators and community workers from Croatia, Austria, Ireland, Brussels and Bilbao, we have worked in tandem with a dedicated group of youth professionals and the incredible young people they engage, designing this bespoke Erasmus Plus project 💪

SICAP Job Coach & Business Mentor Bernadette recently welcomed participants for our latest Start Your Own Business (SYOB) to the Meath Partnership training centre in Kells.

For Week 2 of the course the participants took part in a Canva and social for Business Training Programme delivered by experienced trainer Debbie Ringwood of Content Plan .

🔵The training was designed to support participants in developing their design & digital marketing skills and improving their ability to create professional, engaging content for their businesses and organisations.

🔵Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of social media marketing, including creating effective content, understanding different social media platforms, developing an online presence, and engaging with their target audience.

🔵The Canva element of the training provided hands-on guidance in creating professional-looking graphics, promotional materials, social media posts, flyers and other branded content.

🔵The training aimed to increase participants’ confidence and digital skills, enabling them to independently manage and promote their businesses online while presenting a more professional and consistent brand image. The practical nature of the sessions allowed participants to apply their learning directly to their own business ideas, services and social media platforms.

📣WeNaTour Sustainable Tourism project

As we come to the end of the WeNaTour project, European Project Officer Maria welcomed Partners Sofia Di Riva (INNOVA) and Dominik Muehlberger (BFW) to the Meath Partnership offices for a final project mobility, which included a mix of sustainable training courses events held at the Headfort Arms and a chance for project partners to check out beautiful sites in Meath.👏

🌍The mobility provided an opportunity to promote and ensure project sustainability, engaging local communities and colleagues in an exploration of WeNaTour's opportunities for learning and networking and showcase new market initiatives such.

We are really excited coming to the end of the project and our work with this incredible consortium. Seeing the project flourish beyond this active phase is a a rewarding impact of Erasmus Plus knowledge alliances such as this.

Meath Befriending Service News 📣

Did you know when you volunteer with The Meath Befriending Service as a Befriender, you automatically become a member of the Meath Befriending Network Group - which allows you to join us in multiple networking events and courses including courses like our recent Positive Psychology Course?

The Meath Befriending Network Group recently completed an Introduction to Positive Psychology Course facilitated by Elfreda Manahan-Vaughan Community Educator, from LMETB Community Education

During the course participants explored the following:

🔵The PERMA Model of Wellbeing

🔵Discovering their Character Strengths,

🔵Practical Positive Psychology techniques to support mental wellbeing, build resilience and strengthen relationships.

It was wonderful to have participants sharing experiences, supporting one another and taking away practical ideas they can use in everyday life.🙂

We look forward to bringing more opportunities like this to our groups in the Autumn and welcoming new volunteers.

Explore the European Seniors Friendly Communities (ESFC) Guidebook

📘 Practical resources for building age-friendly communities

✅One of the main outcomes of the ESFC project is our comprehensive Guidebook, created to support educators, community organisations, stakeholders and anyone working with older adults.

✅The Guidebook explores six important areas:

🔵Social Participation
🔵Outdoor Spaces and Buildings
🔵Respect and Social Inclusion

Each chapter combines useful information with practical activities, training resources and assessment tools that can be adapted to different communities and learning settings.

Although the ESFC project is approaching its conclusion, these open resources will remain available to support future learning, community engagement and age-friendly action.👏👏

⛺️ Last month Tatyana and Helen on our SICAP team packed their tents and headed to the wilds of Virginia Lake with youths from the Full House Youth Group supported by Ashbourne Foróige Youth Club

⛺️ Virginia Lake, a beautiful lakeside location provided the perfect setting for our outdoor adventure.

⛺️The group consisted of youths ranging in age from 12–17 whom we have been working with for around a year, it was a fantastic opportunity for them to strengthen friendships, build confidence, develop independence and enjoy the outdoors together.

⛺️During the camp, the group had great fun kayaking on the lake, taking part in outdoor activities and spending quality time together. 🚣‍♀️🏊

In the evening, everyone gathered around the campfire to toast marshmallows and enjoy hot chocolate. 🫕🍡It was a memorable experience in a safe, supportive and beautiful setting, and the young people thoroughly enjoyed every moment.🙂

🔹 Participants from the "Pathways To Growth & Empowerment - Employment course recently undertook a barista training course facilitated delivered by Dublin Barista School🔹🔹🔹

🔹Organised by SICAP Job Coach & Business Mentor Beatrix the group of 13 young adults learned new skills and practical experience including latte art techniques, equipment training, espresso extraction & milk steaming to allow them to excel in securing new opportunities as pro baristas and the field of hospitality

Congrats to All who took place and best of luck in their future careers 👏
