St. Pats Calcutta Appeal

St. Pats Calcutta Appeal This is a page for the St.Pats Calcutta appeal of 2014. 15 transition year student will head off to Calcutta, India to work with slum and street children.

Every 2 years since 2006, transition year students fund raise for the poor of Calcutta. This year they aim to collect €25000 to alleviate suffering in the city. Fifteen students and five leaders from St Patricks Classical School in Navan, will travel to Calcutta at Easter-time to continue the work first initiated by a group of students and teachers in 2006. St Pat's has established links with the

Bridge Foundation, set up by Laetitia Gomez to provide a safe place for the children to do their homework and get something to eat. These children are aged from two to 17. Calcutta has some of the most disadvantaged children in the world today. Exposed to horrendous neglect and abuse on the streets, those who survive are left to fend for themselves with no promise of a safe future. The Bridge Foundation is dedicated to the protection of street and slum children in the city of Kolkata (Calcutta) and the most underprivileged in India to promote immediate & lasting change in their lives. So far, the funds raised by St Pat's has enabled the foundation to buy a premises for these children, as well as funding teachers wages. The students also work in the Mother Teresa orphanages where there are many children with mental & physical disabilities. They will also work with the Foundation. The name of the school is on an apartment built for the Foundations work in Calcutta.
