'Brush Strokes' a series of artworks created during stroke recovery by Tuam artist Brendan McHugh is now on display at Westside Library, following a successful exhibition at the Arts Corridor in University Hospital Galway.
“Brush Strokes” features 11 pieces inspired by Brendan’s hospital experience and recovery, alongside influences from horror and science fiction, developed through his work with the Saolta Arts programme. Galway Public Libraries Galway City Council

The Imagination Postbox is here in Westside! Come along and make sure your amazing creation is posted 👇✨

📨✨ 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘂́ 𝗻𝗮 𝗻𝗢́𝗴 ✨📨
As part of Cruinniú na nÓg, Ireland’s national day of free creativity for children and young people, we’re inviting young minds to let their imaginations soar 💭🎨
“Letters of Imagination” is a creative writing and arts activity where children and young people can express their ideas, hopes and creativity through letters. These can be written, illustrated, or designed in any style you like!
🌟 What can you write?
✍️ Write to your future self
🌍 Write to the world
📖 Write to a fictional character
🎨 Decorate or illustrate your letter too!
Across Ireland, imaginative letters like these have been used to celebrate youth creativity — sometimes even shared with public figures — and now it’s Galway’s turn 💌
📚 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁
Bring your “Letters of Imagination” to Westside Library and post them in the special Letters of Imagination post box. A selection of letters will be read out on local radio.
We’ll display and share your letters in our library on June 6th as part of the Cruinniú na nÓg celebrations.
