🗣Our call is clear: without government funding, New Futures can't continue. This is a proven, targeted programme with over 20 years of success, that urgently needs governments help so that more parents can avail of the life-changing supports.

🌍Today is International Day Of The Family United Nations Human Rights.

⚡It's an important celebration of families, in all their diversity and an opportunity to bring awareness to inequalities experienced by some families.

💚We're deeply proud of all the families we work with at One Family and the many more that we represent through our lobbying and advocacy work.

❗In Ireland, too many one-parent families are limited in the choices they can make about their lives, because of:

💶Poverty and deprivation
🏠 Lack of housing or suitable housing to accomodate their needs
👨‍⚖️A family courts system that too often, causes harm
⚠ Unequal access to education or high-paid employment, which prevents poverty

We can for one-parent families. But we need everybody - government, society, you - to support it.

🚀 New Futures Graduation Class 2026 🚀

✨️This programme changes lives.

✨️It gives lone parents the confidence and skills to build a new future for themselves. Today's graduates are going to college in September, have started jobs. They all said this wouldn't have been possible for them without New Futures.

✨️It's highly effective, extremely targeted, has a 75% success rate.

❌️But isn't funded by government. For 20 years, New Futures has relied on philanthropic or EU funding to survive.

‼️Without urgent government intervention, lone parents in inner-city Dublin will not be able to have the chance that our graduates today got; to create a new path for them and their families. these are people in your constituency. We need your help to get government to fund this evidence-based, targeted programme.

📈Energy poverty was increasing, even before the war in Iran.

⚠️Expansion of the Fuel Allowance ended yesterday and there are no further government measures to support households, including one-parent families, who are still in energy crisis.

💭This new research shows how if government delivered targeted supports, which would be a fraction of the cost of universal ones, they can protect the households most at risk from energy poverty.

⚡Government must provide targeted supports now, including:

✅Pay the Fuel Allowance until October when budget measures are announced.

✅Give a €400 emergency payment to those in receipt of One Parent Family Payment, Jobseekers Transitional Payment, Back To Education Payment and Working Family Payment.

✅Make an additional payment of the Back To School Clothing and Footwear Allowance during Summer 2026.

❗These actions would show government are serious about supporting the people who truly need it during this crisis.
