Dublin Simon Community works to prevent and address homelessness. We provide services at all stages of homelessness and enable people to move to a place they can call home. At Simon, we listen to people who turn to us for help and do everything we can to support them to move out of homelessness into independent living.

The latest data from the Department of Housing confirms 12,475 individuals are now in emergency accommodation in Dublin, representing a staggering 11% year-on-year increase.

As the numbers living in emergency accommodation increase again, we call for greater focus on the practical, evidence-based solutions that help people move out of homelessness and into secure, long-term housing.

“Growing up, home wasn’t a home for me. It wasn’t suitable for anyone, never mind a child. I seen people die, saw things I can never forget.”

“A terrible thing happened me and my childhood ended when I was seven. I felt scared all the time, I’d nobody to talk to. The fear went on for years. I used sleep in the bathroom at night, just to have a door I could lock.”

This is the heartbreaking childhood trauma shared by Martina, one of our clients. Unfortunately, we hear these stories far too often from individuals who grew up without the safety and stability every child needs and deserves.

Today, Martina found the hope she needed to start rebuilding her life. With your support, more women like Martina can find safety, support, and a way forward 💛. Donate today: https://www.dubsimon.ie/spring-campaign-2026-1

For International Nurses Day, we asked some of the nurses at our Health and Addiction Care Facility at Usher’s Island why they chose to become nurses at Dublin Simon. Here are some of their inspiring responses:

✨ “I wanted to be part of making a real difference in people’s lives.”

✨ “So I can provide compassionate, holistic nursing care to vulnerable and marginalised people in our society.”

✨ “It gives me the opportunity to support people with compassion, dignity and care every day.”

✨ “Because I could make a meaningful long-term difference in people’s lives.”

Thank you to all our incredible nurses and healthcare workers who play a crucial role in improving the health and well-being of our clients 💛.

Martina, one of our clients currently residing in Ashfield House, shares her message of hope 💛. After years of experiencing trauma, addiction and homelessness, today, she no longer has to worry where her next meal is coming from or who might be coming through her door. That peace of mind is giving her the space and calm she needs to face life’s other challenges head on!

Confronting the past was not easy for Martina, but like many of our clients, she kept showing up. She spoke about things she had never spoken about before, and she found people and a place she could depend on.

Overcoming a life full of trauma takes time and patience, but with your support, Martina can continue on her recovery journey. Donate today: https://www.dubsimon.ie/spring-campaign-2026-1

Stay tuned for more updates on Martina’s story!

Recently, our amazing staff in one of our services organised a trip to the zoo for our clients, as part of our ongoing effort to promote social engagement and wellbeing through community-based activities 💛.

What might seem like a simple day out became something much more - a chance to connect with nature and with each other. Experiences like this can play an important role in supporting mental health and overall wellbeing, helping to reduce isolation and creating positive, shared memories.

This European Mental Health Week, we are reminded how powerful simple moments of connection can be, particularly for those who may feel most isolated in our community.
