Sage Advocacy sees highest annual increase in referrals

There were 3,923 referrals in 2025 to the national advocacy service for older people and survivors of institutional abuse - up by almost 800 from 2024 (3,145). The organisation helps adults who may be vulnerable to navigate healthcare, housing, safeguarding, financial abuse, legal processes, and assisted decision-making.

Bibiana Savin, CEO at Sage Advocacy said, "Cases are increasingly complex, often involving multiple, overlapping issues relating to health, housing, safeguarding, victims of crime, financial control and legal processes, requiring coordination across numerous agencies.

"Sage Advocates provide continuity across all areas including hospitals, nursing homes, social services, financial institutions and legal actors, ensuring the person's voice, wishes and rights are heard and respected," she said.
