What a wonderful way to mark World Cleanup Day 2026 in Drogheda.

Drogheda Tidy Towns (DTT) celebrated the occasion with a series of clean‑ups held across the town from September 17th to 20th, launching a theme we plan to build on in the years ahead.

Each event focused on removing litter and raising awareness about reducing packaging and waste.

😎 September 17th The first clean‑up was led by the fantastic Amazon team, whose enthusiasm and commitment made a real impact. A sincere thank you to everyone involved — your support is greatly appreciated.

🌎 September 18th Castlethorn led the second clean‑up, joined by DTT volunteers, concentrating efforts in the Ballymakenny area. Their teamwork and results were outstanding, and we extend a big thank you to all who took part.

🥳 September 20th DTT volunteers were delighted to support the Festival of Ideas team in their World Cleanup Day event. A special mention goes to the excellent work carried out on Highlanes Steps, where litter and weeds were removed to transform the area — it looks fantastic.

World Cleanup Day 2026 was a tremendous success thanks to the dedication of DTT volunteers and the valued support of our partners: Amazon, Castlethorn, and the Festival of Ideas. ☘️😆🎉

🥇 Drogheda Tidy Towns Retains Gold Medal!

We are delighted to have retained our Gold Medal at the National Tidy Towns Awards, announced today at Croke Park! 🎉

This achievement would not be possible without our fantastic volunteers, whose dedication and hard work make such a difference to our town. A huge thank you also goes to the many businesses, organisations and community groups across Drogheda who give their time, support and encouragement throughout the year. 💚

Eamonn, Kevin and Frank were on hand at Croke Park today to receive this great news on behalf of Drogheda Tidy Towns.

It is also fantastic to see such a strong set of results across County Louth, with our colleagues in Dromiskin, Blackrock and Dundalk enjoying success in the special awards categories. Congratulations to all involved! 👏

Thank you to everyone who plays a part in making Drogheda a cleaner, greener and better place to live, work and visit. This Gold Medal belongs to all of you! 💚🌿

Drogheda Tidy Towns has been selected as a finalist in two categories at this year’s Drogheda & District Chamber Awards.

We are shortlisted for the Best Not‑for‑Profit Award recognising the voluntary community efforts of our organisation to improve Drogheda.

We are also a finalist together with with Amazon for the Sustainability & Climate Action Award, recognising our positive collaborative work on local environmental projects.

The Chamber is also running the People’s Choice Award, where the public can vote for their favourite organisation or business.

🌱 Growing Native Tree Nurseries with Local Schools 🌳

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been delighted to continue our biodiversity work with St Joseph’s NS, Mell, and St. Mary's Parish Primary School, Bryanstown, following on from the work we started back in May with the building of tree seed nursery beds in both schools .

As part of this latest phase, a key activity was gathering seeds locally such as oak, crab apple , alder , hazel and birch and planting them in the nursery beds. These seeds will hopefully grow into small saplings plants next year, which can then be replanted and over time will grow into full trees, helping to support biodiversity and enhance our local environment. 🌳

The project helps students develop their knowledge, awareness, interest and practical skills in collecting and growing native trees, while learning how they can support local biodiversity and protect our environment. 🌱

There has also been some great growing and harvesting in the meantime! The students at St Mary’s grew potatoes in their tree nursery over summer and were able to enjoy some lovely chips made from this crop. 🥔🍟

This work forms part of our Biodiversity Action work supported by funding from Community Foundation Ireland.

A big thank you to the 5th and 6th Classes in both schools and their teachers, Ann McEvoy in St Joseph’s and Michell Devin in St Mary’s, for their help and support with this work.

🌍🌱 Finishing Climate Action Week on a high note! 💚🧤

To round off our Climate Action Week activities at The Community House, Rathmullen, Drogheda, we were delighted to be joined by the fantastic Second Class students from St. John’s National School for a community litter pick! 👏♻️

The students rolled up their sleeves and helped make the local area cleaner and greener, showing how even small actions can make a big difference to our environment. 🌿🌎

A huge thank you to Ms Curran and all the wonderful students for getting involved, giving their time and helping us care for our community. You are all climate action stars! ⭐💚

Together, we can make a difference, one small action at a time! 🌍🙌

Great work done recently by the TUS team clearing along the Ballsgrove green and Rathmullen wall.

Another great example of the support this team provides in helping to keep Drogheda cleaner and tidier.

Join Drogheda Tidy Towns for a community litter pick this coming Sunday, 18th October at 10am.

We meet at St. Dominic’s Street Car Park for one hour as we tackle litter and weeds in the surrounding streets, including the Bridge of Peace.

Every helping hand makes a difference! 🙌💚
