✨On a recent day out at Nore Valley Adventure Park, Kilkenny, Young parents and their children from The Young Parents Support Programme enjoyed the chance to meet with, and pet the animals including a particularly cute white baby rabbit. On our adventure walk, we saw a donkey just a few days old playing with its mother and a baby fawn learning how to stand for the first time having been born an hour earlier. After lunch and feeling brave some of the parents, children and one or two of the staff, couldn’t resist the chance to have a bounce on the bouncy castle. This was followed by a leisurely tractor drive down by the river in the sunshine. By the end of the day, there were lots of happy faces and the chance to have a nap on the bus on the way home was most welcome for some tired little legs.

The day was a great opportunity for young parents to meet other young parents and their children and enjoy a day out together and learn about the supports and information the Young Parents Support Programme provides to young parents aged up to 25 and their children up the age of 3 years in Carlow and Kilkenny. The Young Parents Support Programme can be contacted on 059 9138700.

The Carlow Older People’s Council is pleased to announce a series of “Staying Safe, Prepared & Connected” Information Roadshows taking place throughout 2026 at locations across County Carlow. These events are designed to support older people and the wider community in staying safe, informed, and connected.
The first Roadshow will take place in Hacketstown on Tuesday, May 26th.
The roadshows will provide practical information and direct access to local services focused on key aspects of safety and preparedness. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to prepare for severe weather events, explore the role and locations of Community Support Centres, and find out more about the Carlow County Council Community Support Register. Information on local community volunteers and support services will also be available on the day.

ℹ️Carlow is switching on to sustainability this May, with households encouraged to make the most of local e‑waste and battery recycling days that make clearing out and recycling easier than ever.

While Powerstown Civic Amenity Site accepts WEEE all year round at no cost, these four convenient drop‑in recycling days, hosted by WEEE Ireland in partnership with Carlow County Council, give local residents an easy way to clear out unused electrical items in their immediate locality.

Anything with a plug, battery or cable can be recycled free of charge. This includes old washing machines, TVs, kettles, toasters, power and garden tools, electronic toys, phones, cables,

IT equipment, remote controls, watches, batteries of all sizes – even farm fence batteries.
