🚀 THE FUTURE OF THE OCEAN DEPENDS ON THE DECISIONS WE MAKE TODAY

We were present at the Monaco Ocean Protection Challenge, a vibrant space where innovation and science come together to save our ocean.

In this challenge, various startups presented extraordinary and tangible solutions that pave the way for change:

🌊 Blue restoration: Projects dedicated to planting seagrasses to absorb carbon.

🌊 Applied biotechnology: The revolutionary use of seaweed-derived bioproducts to replace plastics.

🌊 Cutting-edge technology: Tools designed to mitigate human impact on cetacean habitats.

Supporting young talent and disruptive ideas is key to accelerating the regeneration of our marine ecosystems.

The solutions are underway, and TAF is there to support them.

THE NEW GOLD RUSH: Corporations are targeting the seabed 🚨

Did you know that giant industries are pushing to start commercial mining thousands of meters below the ocean?

Under the guise of a "technological transition," a fierce corporate strategy threatens to destroy pristine, unexplored ecosystems before science even has a chance to understand them.

By operating in the absolute darkness of the deep, this practice poses an irreversible threat. This is how it destroys the ocean:

Annihilation of biodiversity: Gigantic crushing machines will flatten unique habitats and ancient species that exist nowhere else on Earth.

Toxic sediment plumes: Mining will stir up dense clouds of dust that will travel thousands of miles with ocean currents, suffocating marine life and blocking vital light.

Massive noise pollution: The deafening noise from heavy machinery on the ocean floor will disrupt the communication and echolocation pathways of whales and dolphins.

Disrupting the planet's lung: Disturbed seabed ecosystems could release carbon trapped for millions of years, severely accelerating the global climate crisis.

Silence in the face of this plundering makes us complicit. The future of marine life depends on us halting this greed.

WORLD OCEAN DAY: A SHARED REALITY, A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY

Today is World Ocean Day—but why should we need a single day to remind us of something so vital to our existence?
Every day should be a day for the ocean, because every day our lives depend on it.

The ocean produces much of the oxygen we breathe, regulates our climate, and sustains an extraordinary diversity of life. Without a healthy ocean, there is no healthy future for humanity.

Yet one of the greatest threats facing our seas continues to grow: plastic pollution.

On 29 May, during a street interview in Villefranche-sur-Mer, we asked two simple questions:

“What do you think about plastic pollution in the ocean?”
“What steps should we take to combat plastic pollution?”

The responses revealed a near-unanimous view that plastic pollution has become significantly worse in recent years. Everyone recognised the problem and expressed concern for the future of our oceans.

However, a striking contradiction emerged. While responsibility was often assigned to governments, industries, and businesses, very few people considered the role that individual actions and everyday choices play in contributing to the crisis.

Plastic pollution is a shared reality. But it is also a shared responsibility.

Protecting our ocean requires action at every level—from stronger policies and corporate accountability to changes in our own habits and consumption. Awareness alone is not enough. Real change begins when we move from concern to responsibility, and from responsibility to action.

On this World Ocean Day, let’s remember that the ocean is not only worth celebrating—it is worth protecting, every single day. 🌊💙♻️🐋

🐳🎒 THESE ARE THE 40 NEW GUARDIANS OF THE OCEAN IN FRANCE!

We shared a very special educational day with students in France.

Approximately 40 boys and girls dove headfirst with the TAF team into the fascinating world of cetaceans and the importance of protecting the ocean.

We firmly believe that education is the most powerful tool to change the world and to plant the seeds of respect for marine life from childhood.

Seeing the curiosity in their eyes and their desire to protect whales and dolphins fills us with deep hope.

Together, we are stronger!

💬 At what age did you first become fascinated by the ocean? Leave us your answer in the comments and share this post to support our educational work.

PS: You can still submit your ocean image to participate in our photo contest .

🐋 THE OCEAN BREATHES THANKS TO THEM.

Every time a whale dives and returns to the surface, it moves tons of essential nutrients that feed phytoplankton. This vital micro-ecosystem is responsible for generating more than half of the Earth's oxygen.

Protecting cetaceans is not an option; it is a biological necessity to ensure the balance of our marine ecosystems and our own survival.

That is why, ahead of World Oceans Day, we want you to show us your connection to this wonderful blue world. You still have time to join our campaign!

📸 PARTICIPATE IN :

Option 1: Upload a photo or Reel to your feed explaining what the ocean means to you, tag .Animal.Fund, and use the hashtag .

Option 2: Share your photo in Stories, tagging us with the same hashtag.

Option 3 (Private accounts): Send your photo and message directly to us via Direct Message (DM).

The TAF team will shortlist the most inspiring images so our community can vote for their favorite on Instagram Stories this June 6th and 7th. Your voice and your perspective matter!

🚨 THE CYCLE OF LIFE AFTER TRAGEDY

The beaching of Timmy the whale in Denmark has raised alarms due to the gas buildup inside its body, a natural yet dangerous process on the coastline.

However, when this process occurs at the bottom of the ocean, a whale carcass transforms into an oasis of biodiversity known as a "whale fall."

This temporary ecosystem benefits hundreds of marine species:

Sharks and scavengers: They consume the soft tissues during the initial stages.

Crabs and amphipods: They colonize the remains weeks later.

Extremophile bacteria: They decompose the bones, releasing compounds that sustain life in the deep ocean for decades.

While seeing these events on land brings us sadness, at the bottom of the sea, the end of a whale's journey provides sustenance for thousands of lives. At TAF, we promote and study of these giants at every stage of their existence.

THE BIG GREEN LIE: The "biodegradable" plastic myth ❌

Were you told that "compostable" or "bio" plastic is the solution for the ocean? It’s a corporate trap.

Science has already proven it: this material only breaks down in industrial plants at high temperatures. In the cold water and high pressure of the ocean, it behaves exactly like regular plastic. This is how it secretly destroys:

False disappearance: It doesn't degrade; it just breaks down rapidly into thousands of invisible microplastics.

Deadly trap: Fish and turtles mistake it for food, blocking their digestive systems just the same.

Corporate greenwashing: Brands wash their image on the labels while the seabed continues to suffocate.

Changing the label doesn't change the impact. Silence in the face of this deception makes us complicit.
