There was no autumn gloom at Penley Day Opportunities today!

We were delighted to welcome Wrexham Sounds for a lively music session and sing-along that had everyone tapping their feet and singing along.

It was a great pick-me-up on a cold and damp afternoon, and it was wonderful to see the positive impact that music can have.

What does ageing well look like? This morning, it looked like 15 incredible Rainbow runners taking on Erddig parkrun together.

From seasoned parkrunners to those challenging themselves to get moving and try something new, every single person who crossed that finish line should be incredibly proud.

At Rainbow, we know that being active is about so much more than exercise. It's about building confidence, improving wellbeing and proving that movement really is for everyone.

A huge thank you to the amazing Erddig parkrun, our supporters and, of course, our 15 fantastic Rainbow runners who represented our community so brilliantly.

With the storm expected to clear overnight, the Rainbow team will be at Erddig parkrun tomorrow with the people we work with, their families and anyone who'd like to join us.

Many of the older people who come along hadn’t thought of themselves as parkrunners. Some walk with sticks, and some haven’t done anything like it in years. Our takeovers are part of our Active Futures work: getting people moving, outdoors and part of community life.

There was an extra sense of pride when our clients visited The Longest Yarn in Wrexham this week, knowing that some of our very own Rainbow knitters had contributed to this incredible exhibition.

As Rainbow client Sylvia said: "I can't believe how wonderful it was to see such beautiful craft on display."

The exhibition also sparked lots of stories. Brian shared his memories of being a young boy when the war started, and it was wonderful to hear everyone reminiscing together and keeping those important stories alive.

In fact, the visit made such an impression that everyone has continued to talk about it days later!

A huge well done to all the talented knitters who helped bring this remarkable exhibition to life.

Our Day Opportunities service runs 5 days a week from Monday to Friday in Penley and on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Marchwiel. It was fantastic to welcome our Knit, Natter & Crochet group back today! A lovely morning of creativity, conversation and friendship, with everyone sharing projects, tips and plenty of laughs.
