Penley Hospital is now closed, and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has confirmed that it will not reopen as a health board led community hospital.

The Health Board is consulting on the future use of the site until 7 October 2026, and we're encouraging everyone in South Wrexham to have their say.

The Rainbow Foundation has developed a proposal for a local rehabilitation and recovery service at Penley. The idea is simple:

✅ Give people the best possible chance to recover after a hospital stay before returning home.

✅ This is not an overflow ward. The focus is on helping people recover, rebuild confidence and return home safely.

✅ Providing daily physiotherapy, nursing and wider support with everyday living skills to help people regain their strength and independence.

✅ Free up acute hospital beds at Wrexham Maelor for those who need them most.

✅ Deliver care closer to home and at a lower cost than keeping people in hospital, helping the NHS make better use of limited resources.

This proposal has been shaped by what local people, families, carers and the wider community have told us they want to see.

If you support our proposal, please let the Health Board know through the consultation. Every response matters and could help shape the future of health and care services in South Wrexham.

Have Your Say on the Future of Bus Services in North Wales

Transport connects people to healthcare, employment, activities, family and friends, helping them stay independent and active in their communities.

At the Rainbow Foundation, we see first-hand how vital strong transport links are in rural areas. Through our Community Transport service and Rural Transport Scheme, we support people to attend medical appointments, access local services, enjoy social activities, and stay connected to the people and places that matter most. We know just how important reliable and accessible transport can be.

That's why we're encouraging local people to take part in Transport for Wales' consultation on future bus services in North Wales. Your views could help shape better transport options for communities across the region.

Have your say here: https://haveyoursay.tfw.wales/future-bus-services-in-north-wales

Transport for Wales will also be holding engagement events, including in Wrexham, giving people the opportunity to find out more and share their views in person.

Dates across Wrexham include:
• Friday 4 September from 9:00am–1:00pm at Chirk Parish Hall
• Monday 7 September from 8:00am–1:00pm and 4:30pm–7:00pm at Wrexham Bus Station
• Thursday 17 September from 3:00pm–6:00pm, Brymbo Enterprise Centre
• Thursday 24 September all day at Wrexham University

Help shape the future of bus services in North Wales Transport for Wales, working with local authorities across North Wales, is developing proposals for a new bus network, in preparation for bus reform. We're inviting people who live, work and travel in North Wales to
