CAFOD in Shrewsbury We are CAFOD in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, your local contact for the Catholic Church’s official aid agency in England and Wales.

A better world needs all of us. CAFOD Shrewsbury works with the Catholic community in the diocese to raise both funds and awareness of global poverty and injustice through parishes, schools, individuals and networks. Our office is just one of many around England & Wales working in partnership with thousands of volunteers and supporters, providing information on supporting CAFOD in your area and how to get involved.

This weekend I visited The Catholic Parish of St Hugh & St John. It was wonderful to thank parishioners for their many years of support and to share the impact of their donations by telling them about Tayla and her community in northern Zimbabwe.

Thank you Canon Christopher and the parish for the very warm welcome 💚🙏

Today is the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi and also marks the end of the Season of Creation. 💚

With 2026 being 800 years since his death, Pope Leo declared this to be a special year in which we are all called to become saints in our world.

On Friday, I attended a screening of the National Emergency Briefing film at Holy Apostles & Martyrs Catholic Parish in Wallasey.

This important film presents the latest evidence on the climate crisis from leading experts and is a call to action for individuals, communities, and MPs.

During the Season of Creation, it is a reminder of the urgent need for us to give thanks for all God has made and to reflect on how we can take action together to protect our common home.

Last week, I took part in the pilgrimage at St. Francis' Church in Chester. This was part of the Year of Francis Jubilee, in the 800th anniversary year of the death of St Francis of Assisi.

St Francis' commitment to solidarity with those in poverty and caring for God's creation are values that underpin CAFOD's work today.

During this Season of Creation, join us in prayer starting tomorrow and for the nine days leading to the Feast of St Francis on 4 October 🙏

During the Season of Creation, the Church invites us not simply to change our habits, but to experience a deeper conversion of heart.

St John Paul II spoke of the need for an “ecological conversion” — a renewed way of seeing our relationship with God's creation.

That conversion can affect:
❤️ Our hearts — learning to love and appreciate creation.
🏡 Our habits — considering what we consume and what we waste.
🙏 Our priorities — placing gratitude and stewardship above convenience.
🌍 Our relationships — recognising that our choices affect other people, especially the poor and vulnerable.

We are not owners of creation in an absolute sense.

We are stewards.

The earth is God's gift, and we are called to pass that gift on.

This week, ask yourself:
Is there one habit I could change as an act of Christian stewardship?

Small changes, offered to God, can become part of a much greater conversion.

It was wonderful to meet with parish volunteers from the Diocese of Shrewsbury on Saturday, to plan for the forthcoming Harvest Fast Day. Thanks to volunteer Harish for arranging our meeting room and lunch at St Mary's RC Church, Crewe and to Fr Nick for joining us.
