The hot weather and lack of rain means Maes y Pant is at risk! We are very close to the area classed currently as ‘exceptionally at risk’ of fires, and the consequences could be devastating. Thank you to all visitors for not using anything - especially instant bbqs - that might start a fire. If you do see or smell something suspicious, please ring for the fire brigade using 999 or 112 without delay, giving a what3words location if possible. Our visitors are our eyes and ears (and noses!) Thank you all for helping us look after this beautiful site.

Another warm session this month, and we were impressed that we had 23 volunteers for this one! A different-from-usual task was putting together the raw materials we’d collected to create our scarecrow. We’re rather pleased with the result! We are number 7 on the trail, and copies of the map are available from Spar, the Coop and the library. As well as that task, we repaired several broken steps up to the viewpoint, did some path safety work and watered the ‘Girlguide’ hedge (again - it’s a frequent on-going task in the current dry spell.) We had ice creams and cold drinks available again, but cups of tea and a delicious lemon drizzle were more popular this time!
Grateful thanks to everyone.

Volunteers

We’ll be running the regular volunteer session on Saturday. As usual, we’ll meet at the gates on Pant Lane at 10.00 but we’ll finish by about 12.30. It’s not looking like the heat will be too much of a problem, but we’ll keep an eye on it. As always, there’ll be a variety of jobs. We’re going to be repairing steps again, and an important job for the art-y volunteers will be putting together our entry for the scarecrow trail! As always, you’ll be welcome to join us.

Another dog became seriously ill yesterday, after eating food left in Maes y Pant. Thankfully the animal is improving after treatment at the vets.

PLEASE don’t leave food scraps anywhere on the site, it’s a danger to wildlife and pets, not a kindness.

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been awarded a Green Flag Community Award again - for the 11th year running!!
Being a Green Flag site is really prestigious - it involves strict criteria and inspections, so it’s a real endorsement of all the hard work from our volunteers. Thank you all !
We’ll fly the flag for this year in all weathers - as we’ve done before!!

A very warm session this month, and we were very grateful to the volunteers who braved the heat. The good thing is that there’s always a variety of tasks that need doing, so we chose carefully this time.
The gates are now painted (ideal conditions as it’s so dry), the new ‘Girlguide’ hedge was watered and we even managed to strim the overgrown path around the meadow. Sadly, it was well worth doing the litter/poo pick, too. The ice creams and cold drinks were more popular than the teas and coffees! Grateful thanks to everyone.

Volunteers this Saturday !!!

We’re watching the forecast carefully, but unless the weather gets even hotter,
we’ll be running the regular volunteer session this Saturday morning.
As usual, we’ll meet at the gates on Pant Lane at 10.00 but we’ll finish earlier than usual and we’ll bring an ample supply of drinks. We’ll be choosing tasks which aren’t too heavy, and are in the shade where possible. One of them will be painting the gates (too good an opportunity to miss when it’s been so dry) so wear painting clothes if you fancy that! As always, there’ll be a variety of jobs and you’ll be welcome to join us. If anything changes, we’ll put another message here.
