A smaller number of volunteers than usual for this month’s volunteer session, but we knew that several regulars were not available. Thanks to hard work from the 12 who were there, we achieved a lot! Sorting out the blocked soakaway drain in the car park was probably the most unpleasant job, and all credit to the sterling work the lads did there. Elsewhere, we put more bark in the play area, protected trees in the meadow from hungry rabbits, strimmed paths and did lots of weeding. Maybe most important, we put up our new signs about picking up dog waste. This has become a bigger problem in recent months, and we are hoping that our new campaign will have an effect.
Many thanks as always to everyone who helped.

We’ll be running the regular volunteer session this Saturday morning. As usual, we’ll meet at the gates on Pant Lane at 10.00 and finish with a drink and cake at about 12.30. We’ll be tidying up and adding to the bark in the play area which has got a bit thin in places, and continuing the work to identify and protect valuable tree saplings.
As always, there’ll be less heavy tasks as well and you’ll be welcome to join us.
See you there!

Lots of variety for the volunteers today!
We did some work in the pond area tidying up where the new drainage pipe was put in this week and removing self-seeded saplings which would compromise the membrane. We mulched and watered the area where Brownies, Guides and Rangers planted a hedge on Thursday, and we started a survey of the regeneration growth in one of the recent clear-fell areas. We also cleaned and checked the solar panel which supplies the power for the container. We felt we’d deserved the drink and chocolate cookies!

Volunteers Saturday
It’s the second Saturday in the month again, so we’ll be meeting by the carpark gates at 10 o’clock. There’ll be all the usual regular tasks but something a little different will be a new project to identify specimen trees in one of the ‘clearfell’ areas, following advice from the National Forest team.
A drink and biscuits to end with as always! Look forward to seeing you.

Many thanks as always to our volunteers who worked hard at a variety of tasks on Saturday morning. We managed to get the best of the weather and we achieved a lot ! We did more step repairs, a litter pick and more general site maintenance. It was also lovely to talk to visitors about the site and realise how much it’s appreciated by so many people. Thank you to everyone who works so hard to help to maintain it.
