Team Evie

Team Evie A charity set up in memory of Evie Johnston helping sick children and their families! She went to theatre 14 times in her short life.

Evie was a TOF baby, she had lots of complex cardiac problems, complex respiratory problems and problems with her tummy. I could go on about the challenges, but that is not how Evie went about things. She smiled whenever she could, was positive and fought with all her might. Throughout the 6 months we spent with her in hospital we learned a lot and became experts in many things we never expected t

o. Through Team Evie we are determined to use our knew found knowledge and experience to help children and their families who are going through the tough times that we did. We aim to raise money for important medical equipment, support for parents, to buy lots of things to improve childrens time in hospital, to raise awareness with the aim to support families who are in the situation we experienced and much much more...

We feel something special is building with Team Evie, she has inspired so many people and we will continue her good work...

We are looking for more parents to join our expanding team of volunteer Peer Supporters.

Specifically, we need some more Peer Supporters who have experience of a loss during pregnancy or a still birth. Ideally if we are able to get both a mum and dad to add to the team it would be amazing to help us support the growing number of parents needing our support.

Peer Support is essentially connecting parents and families with someone who has 'been there and done it' so that they have someone to speak to who understands, cares and provides support.

The service is delivered by volunteer peer supporters, trained and supported by Team Evie. This could be the perfect role for you to support others if you have experienced:

๐Ÿ’š A diagnosis during pregnancy
๐Ÿ’š A loss during pregnancy of any gestation
๐Ÿ’š A still birth
๐Ÿ’š The death of a child in hospital

If you are interested and would like to join our team, or hear more about the role , you can register your interest in the Peer Support Service by following the link in the comments. โฌ‡๏ธ

This is not a commitment, and doesn't mean you are committing to the role - following registering your interest we will be in touch to let you know how to apply for the role and go from there!

Thank you so much to Tasha and Scott who chose to support Team Evie through their wedding favours! ๐Ÿ’

How amazing do they look?! ๐Ÿ˜

I was so kind of Tasha and Scott to support other families like theirs on the special day, after they spent time in Special Care with their son.

Posts like this are tough to put out, even after 11 years - but we always want to be honest and share the reality with our followers, as your support means so much to us. It also feels important to show others facing similar challenges with their children that they aren't alone โœŠ๐Ÿป

We were always driven by positivity during Evie's life, alongside her to do everything we could to help her.

But the reality of what we faced was incredibly tough, and 11 years ago today we shared this post, to keep everyone posted on the severity of the challenges before us as a family. We weren't aware that less than 4 weeks later Evie would not be able to cope with the challenges any more...

It is always a tough month in September for us, even subconsciously, as the memories of everything that happened then are never too far away.

We are building up towards the 27th September, the day Evie died, and as always will be asking you to 'Go Green for Evie' to remember her on that day - more information in the coming weeks ๐Ÿ’š

Here is our post from September 3rd 2015.

"Evening all.
Today has been more challenging than yesterday unfortunately. Evie had a really rough night with a few 'episodes' which luckily the nurses and doctors managed to sort out.
She has been quite a poorly little girl today. The main issues being:
She is on a pacemaker as her heart rate was slower than they really wanted.
She is very swollen all over as she is retaining fluid. Because she is storing fluid in the wrong places they have to keep giving her more to keep her blood pressure up, so the problem keeps getting worse and she looks awful bless her.
She needs to be paralysed as whenever they stop the medicine which does this she starts (typically) fighting against the ventilator which means she drop her oxygen levels dangerously. The way to alleviate this is to give her more sedation, but when they try her blood pressure drops dangerously low.
A constant balancing act which at times seems impossible to get on top of...
Never the less, the team are working really hard and are making slow progress. We still clearly have a long way to go to win this battle, but my word we are going to!
I thought it was important to keep everyone in the picture (honestly the level of support for is getting out of hand, you are all incredible!) and that as tough as it is we would share where she is and what we are facing with a picture. Apologies if this is upsetting for anyone... To help I have also included a picture of her from yesterday morning before the operation!
Night all, we love you all x"
