Autistic Pride Day 🧩 🌈 A day to celebrate autistic identity and recognise the unique strengths, perspectives and contributions that autistic people bring to our communities.

Pride is about more than awareness - it's about acceptance, understanding and making sure every person feels seen and valued for exactly who they are.

If you or someone you know is autistic and looking for local support, ASAAC - Autism Support Allerdale & Copeland is based right here in Workington and offers a welcoming space for autistic people and their families.

Their services include a Sensory Room, a Home Ed Hub and much more - all designed to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for the local community.

Volunteers' Week – A Heartfelt Thank You

As Volunteers' Week is celebrated, I would like to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to each and every volunteer who gives their time, energy, compassion, and dedication to support ASAAC.

Your commitment makes an incredible difference to the lives of autistic children, young people, adults, and families across our community. Whether you are helping at groups, supporting events, fundraising, offering a listening ear, assisting behind the scenes, or simply being there when someone needs support, your contribution is invaluable.

Volunteers are the heart of ASAAC. Your kindness, patience, enthusiasm, and belief in what we do help create safe spaces, build confidence, reduce isolation, and bring hope to so many people. Quite simply, we could not achieve what we do without you.

Thank you for the countless hours you give, for the challenges you help us overcome, and for the positive impact you make every single day. Your support changes lives, strengthens our community, and helps us continue our mission of ensuring that no one feels they are facing autism alone.

On behalf of myself, the trustees, and all the families and individuals who benefit from your support, thank you for everything you do. You are truly appreciated, today and every day.

Happy Volunteers' Week!

Today, Cumbria police neurodiversity champion and Shirley Murphy from ASAAC have been to support a family of a female neurodiverse person in Workington. Over the last four and a half years, the focus has moved over to women and girls who present differently, which can lead to late or misdiagnosis. Raising awareness around this is very important.

A huge thank you to former Mayor, Cllr David Farrar, for choosing Autism Support Allerdale and Copeland (ASAAC) as one of his charities of the year and for presenting us with an incredible donation of £1,100 raised through fundraising over the past year.

This generous support will help us continue providing vital support, activities, safe spaces, and opportunities for autistic individuals, families, parent carers, and the wider neurodivergent community across West Cumbria.

We are truly grateful for the time, effort, and dedication shown throughout the year to support local charities and make a positive difference within our community.

From all of us at ASAAC — thank you for believing in the work we do and helping us continue supporting families who need us most.
