If you find a hedgehog that is injured, weak, wobbly, struggling, covered in flies or fly eggs, or otherwise showing signs of distress, ACT STRAIGHT AWAY. DO NOT WAIT AND SEE.
β° Every hour can matter. Every delay can cost a life.
Hedgehogs are experts at hiding how poorly they are. By the time they show obvious signs of illness, they may already be critically unwell. Waiting days to seek help can mean the difference between life and death.
π Please spare a thought for the volunteers, too.
We pour our hearts into every hedgehog that comes through our doors. We give our time, love, energy and everything we possibly can to save them. We fight for every life.
But nothing prepares us for the heartbreak of losing a hedgehog when its condition has become irreversible because help was sought too late.
To care for an animal, fight for its life and still lose it because precious time was wasted is absolutely devastating. Sometimes, by the time a hedgehog reaches us, the damage is already done. We cannot always undo the consequences of a delay.
π There is no shortage of information about hedgehog welfare these days. Numerous experienced hedgehog rescues are available to offer advice. You don't need to know all the answers. You just need to ASK FOR HELP.
