At 1500 hrs today, Sunday 27th September, the annual Double Hills Memorial Service was held in honour of the 23 Airborne soldiers who lost their lives during Operation Market Garden on 17th September 1944, when Horsa Glider RJ113 exploded over Double Hills near Paulton.
The commemoration was attended by representatives and Standards of the Airborne Engineer Associations, the Deputy Mayor of Weston‑super‑Mare Town Council, County and Branch Standards of the Royal British Legion, Veterans, Army and Air Force Cadets.
The service, led with great dignity by Rev. Margaret Haywood, provided a moment of solemn reflection as all present stood in remembrance of the fallen with Parade Officer, James Davis giving the parade orders.
The Branch extends its sincere thanks to everyone who attended, and to all Cadets who took part in today’s commemorative event, ensuring the memory of the Double Hills fallen continues to be honoured with respect and gratitude.
