Shire Community Services Shire Community Services provides a range of transport services to the local community, in particular the elderly and disabled.

Founded 1973, Shire Community Transport provides transport and mobility support to the local community in Wellingborough and surrounding areas including the Wellibus & Rushden/Higham Ferrers Community Transport and the Wellbeing Car Service. Our Wellibus is a fully accessible door to door minibus service, enabling people in Wellingborough and surrounding villages to get to major supermarkets and t

he town centre, as well as any other group, club, or social appointment they may have. Wellibus also has a monthly excursion programme, providing trips to places such as; Rushden Lakes, local garden centres, farm shops, afternoon tea, Sunday lunches and more. Membership is just £10 for 6 x months or £20 for 12 x months, and transport on the bus is completely FREE of charge if you hold a concessionary bus pass! The Volunteer Car Service helps the same people and others attend vital medical appointments, for a fraction of the cost of a standard taxi. Volunteers give up their time to assist passengers from their doorstep and take them to their appointments, wait for the appointment to finish, then drop them back home again. Transport can be provided for ANY NHS appointment including; Doctor, dentist, optician, podiatry and more. Membership starts from just £10 for 6 x months, plus the NHS mileage allowance of 45p per mile is paid to the driver for each journey taken. Finally, if you struggle around town and just need a scooter for an hour or two, could use a wheelchair for a hospital appointment or a trip away, or struggle with your shopping and would benefit from a shopping trolley during the day, then Shopmobility is for you. We have a range of mobility aids available for both short and long term hire, with the office open Monday - Friday, 09:30am - 1:30pm.

Recently retired? At a loose end? If you are a driver with your own car, you could help others to attend medical appointments. We pay fuel expenses at HMRC rates and urgently need drivers in and around Wellingborough, Rushden and Kettering as we cannot currently help everyone that needs transport.

Here's an update to April's Excursion list. Many are sold out with a waiting list so if you fancy a pub lunch at the Swan, shopping and/or lunch at Rushden Lakes or a trip slightly further afield to Huntingdon or Bedford please don't leave it too long or you will be disappointed.
