✂️ Hairdresser Volunteer Opportunity ✂️

For many, having access to a haircut isn't always easy.

We are looking for a qualified and kind-hearted hairdresser/barber who can provide a welcoming, respectful and person-centred experience to our service users here at Daylight Centre.

A haircut can support an individuals wellbeing, self-expression and confidence and allows them to feel more comfortable and prepared for important appointments, work opportunities or how they show up in day-to-day life.

This volunteer role is approximately 3 hours, every 6 weeks, and provides basic haircuts (no colouring, no washing)

✂️A Heartfelt Thank You to Emma✂️

We would like to say a huge thank you to Emma, as she moves on from volunteering her much appreciated time and skills with us here Daylight Centre.

Emma has provided much more than haircuts! She has created a welcoming space where people have been treated with kindness, respect and dignity and helped many of our service users feel seen, valued and cared for.

We are incredibly grateful for the time that Emma has shared with our community and the positive impact she has had will not be forgotten.

📢 Good News: Free Flu Jabs for People Experiencing Homelessness

The government has announced that from Autumn 2026, people experiencing homelessness in England will be eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination.

This includes people who are:

🏠 Sleeping rough
🏠 Staying in homeless hostels
🏠 Using night shelters

Flu can be particularly dangerous for people experiencing homelessness, leading to serious illness and hospital admissions. This new programme aims to help protect some of the most vulnerable members of our communities during the winter months.

The decision follows expert advice that people experiencing homelessness face a similar (and sometimes greater) risk from flu than other groups who already receive free vaccinations.

At Centre we welcome this important step towards improving health access and reducing inequalities. Everyone deserves the opportunity to stay healthy and access vital healthcare services.

More information about how and where vaccinations will be available will be announced by the NHS closer to the rollout.

The government will offer flu vaccination to those experiencing homelessness beginning in Autumn.

🤔 What’s on at Daylight Centre?

There is a full timetable of regular sessions, activities and events taking place at Daylight Centre Fellowship, which provide the community with so many opportunities for connection and support ✨

Each day (Monday to Friday) there is the TLC Service: For Individuals who are experiencing homelessness and the Daylight Cafe & Support Hub, for those who may want to access services, find out about the support options available for their circumstances and make connections with our team and partner services ☕️

Each Tuesday there is the Bat 'n' Chat - Table Tennis Social Club, where there is the opportunity to play, socialise and connect with others 🏓

Every other Wednesday we host the EmpowerHER - Women's Support Session, a women-only space bringing together some of our partner services to empower our female community ✨

It was so lovely to welcome so many friends, supporters and partners at the Daylight Veggie Patch open day 😊

Our Independent Living Team dropped in to the incredible Daylight Centre last week for their allotment open day. The rainy weather didn't dampen the spirits of the staff and volunteers who have done an amazing job with the allotment space, providing a vital service for the local community including many of our residents. It was great to catch up on the invaluable work they do in .
