Nene Valley CFR is a voluntary organisation and rely entirely on public support and charitable funds to continue this vital life saving work.

A brilliant day at the Emergency Services Event at Chester House!

It was a busy one for the Nene Valley CFR team today, with lots of people stopping by to meet the team, ask questions and get hands-on with some of our equipment.

Richie was showing visitors around an emergency ambulance and explaining some of the equipment and capabilities on board.

Peter and Dani were busy demonstrating CPR and giving members of the public the opportunity to practise this vital lifesaving skill.

Malcolm was demonstrating some of the equipment we carry in CFR10, including our Raizer Chair – a fantastic piece of kit that helps us safely raise someone from the floor following a fall. The kids particularly enjoyed having a go and seeing how it works!

A great day of engagement, demonstrations and conversations with the community, with plenty of people joining in and getting involved.

This evening we joined forces with East Northants First Responders for a water awareness and safety session.

Through practical exercises, open discussion and shared experiences, both teams explored the risks associated with incidents in and around water, casualty management, personal safety and the importance of decontamination following an incident.

The session provided a valuable opportunity to learn from one another, strengthen our awareness and build the strong working relationships that help us respond effectively when it matters most.

A huge thank you to Morrisons Wellingborough for providing their community room free of charge and giving us such a fantastic space to train and collaborate.

David and Paul are logged on in Wellingborough tonight, supporting East Midlands Ambulance Service and responding to emergency calls across the area.

They’ve already attended a Category 1 call this evening and are now grabbing a quick break before getting ready for whatever the next call may bring.

Like all of our Community First Responders, Paul and David are volunteers, giving up their own time to support their local community and the ambulance service.

If you see them out and about in CFR10 tonight, give them a wave and say hello!

It’s not all about responding to emergency calls

As Community First Responders, we also love getting out into the community, sharing knowledge and teaching skills that could one day help save a life.

Today, Malcolm and Peter were at the
Northamptonshire Carers Summer Fete in Wellingborough, teaching essential lifesaving skills including CPR, how to use a Defibrillator and the recovery position.

A great day supporting the community in a slightly different way — and hopefully giving more people the confidence to step in and help when it really matters.

Yesterday, Malcolm was logged on and responding to calls across the area, attending three incidents in Northampton and Burton Latimer.

One of those was a little different — a rare “running call.”

As Malcolm was leaving his first incident, a neighbour approached him to say that a member of their family was having difficulty breathing. Malcolm stopped to help, contacted the CFR desk and carried out a set of observations before calling 999 for further assistance.

Running calls aren’t something our Community First Responders come across very often, but if we encounter someone who needs help while we’re out and about, we’ll always stop and assist where it’s safe and appropriate to do so.

Sometimes the next person who needs help isn’t the one we were originally sent to.

Well done, Malcolm — another busy shift supporting our local communities.

While many of us were enjoying our day, Malcolm was spending his giving back to the community.

Logged on as a Community First Responder in partnership with East Midlands Ambulance Service, Malcolm attended three 999 emergencies across Wellingborough and Rushden, providing vital early care to those who needed it most.

It’s easy to forget that our responders are all volunteers. We give up our own time, often at short notice, to be there for complete strangers on what may be one of the worst days of their lives.

A huge thank you to Malcolm for another day of quiet dedication and selfless service. Our community is lucky to have you.

Anita is logged on in CFR10 this morning, responding to emergency 999 calls in partnership with East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Anita has already attended one call today, highlighting just how quickly our volunteers can be called into action.

Our Community First Responders give up their own time to provide vital support to local people while working alongside EMAS. We’re incredibly proud of the difference they make every single day.

What a beautiful summer evening across the Nene Valley area of Northamptonshire!

David and Paul are logged on as a double crew this evening, ready to respond to emergency 999 calls in support of East Midlands Ambulance Service. Between call-outs, they’re also out checking public access defibrillators across our local communities.

A defibrillator is only there when it’s needed if it’s been looked after. Regular checks help make sure every device is ready to use at a moment’s notice, with the pads, battery and equipment all in working order. It’s a small task that could one day make a life-saving difference.

If you see CFR10 out and about this evening, don’t forget to give David and Paul a wave!

Yesterday, Malcolm was logged on and responded to three emergency calls across Wellingborough and Northampton.

Sadly, one of those was a hoax 999 call reporting a cardiac arrest. While Ambulance crews, Community First Responders and police officers were rushing to help someone believed to be in a life-threatening situation, those same resources weren’t available for someone who may have genuinely needed them.

Hoax calls don’t just waste time—they can delay life-saving care, tie up vital emergency resources and put responders at unnecessary risk as they travel under emergency conditions

Please think before calling 999. It should only ever be used when someone genuinely needs urgent emergency help.

It’s been another busy day for the team today.

Malcolm has been on call, responding to two emergency calls in the sweltering heat while supporting East Midlands Ambulance Service. A huge thank you to him for giving up his time to help keep our community safe.

With the hot weather continuing, please remember to take care of yourselves:
Drink at least 2 litres of water throughout the day.
Try to limit caffeinated drinks, as they can contribute to dehydration.
Spend as much time as possible in the shade or somewhere cool.
Avoid vigorous exercise during the hottest part of the day.
Protect your skin with sunscreen and wear appropriate clothing and a hat if you’re out in the sun.

This afternoon, Peter and Richie were at Rushden Primary Academy’s Summer Fête, where they demonstrated essential CPR skills and gave visitors the opportunity to look around an emergency ambulance and learn more about the life-saving equipment carried on board.

A big thank you to everyone who came along to chat with us, asked questions, and had a go at CPR. Every person who learns these skills could one day help save a life.
