Nene Valley CFR is a voluntary organisation and rely entirely on public support and charitable funds to continue this vital life saving work.

One Community. One Celebration. One Festival of Lights.

This weekend, Richie, Peter and Malcolm represented Nene Valley Community First Responders at the Wellingborough Festival of Lights.

The team demonstrated CPR skills, chatted with visitors about our volunteer work and raised funds to help us continue supporting our local community. Every conversation is an opportunity to give someone the confidence to step forward and help in an emergency.

Delivered by the Wellingborough District Hindu Association (WDHA) in partnership with North Northamptonshire Council, the festival celebrates Diwali and the borough’s long-standing Hindu community heritage, bringing people together for a shared celebration.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, had a go at CPR or made a donation, and to Richie, Peter and Malcolm for giving up their time to support the event.

A very wet day hasn’t stopped Malcolm from supporting our local community!

Malcolm has been logged on today, responding to three 999 calls across Wellingborough, Higham Ferrers and Rushden in support of East Midlands Ambulance Service. 🚑

A big thank you to Malcolm for giving up his time to provide immediate care when it’s needed most. Our responders are all volunteers, fitting their shifts around work and home life.

A busy night for our responders!

David, Paul and Claire have been logged on this evening, responding to three emergency calls across Rushden and Overstone, with two of the calls at the same location.

In between jobs, they stopped at Wellingborough while on standby, ready to respond if another call came through.

After busy days at work, they’ve given up their evening to support EMAS and help people in our community when they need it most.

There’s plenty that goes into each shift, from checking equipment before logging on to making sure everything is ready again after each call.

A huge thank you to all three for giving their time tonight. Our team are all volunteers, fitting their responding around work, family and everyday commitments — and we’re grateful for every hour all of our responders, and all responders give to the community

A big welcome to Lucie!

Congratulations to Lucie, who has just passed her Level 2 training with East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) and will be joining Nene Valley Community First Responders.

It takes commitment to complete the training and volunteer your time to help others, and we’re delighted to welcome her to the team.

Our volunteers support EMAS and our local communities when help is needed most. It’s fantastic to have another person joining us to make a difference.

Well done, Lucie — we look forward to working alongside you!

A busy afternoon for Malcolm!

Malcolm is logged on today, giving up his own time to respond to 999 calls alongside East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS). So far this afternoon, he has attended four calls across Rushden, Irthlingborough and Wollaston.

With the ambulance warmed up ready for a patient, it’s a reminder that comfort and reassurance are an important part of care too. Small touches can make a big difference when someone is feeling unwell or anxious.

Like all our Community First Responders, Malcolm volunteers his time to help local people and support our ambulance service colleagues.

A special shout-out to the EMAS crews who do this day in, day out, caring for our communities through busy shifts and challenging situations. We’re proud to play our part as volunteers alongside them.

A cuppa. A phone call. A little time for someone.

This World Mental Health Day, we’re encouraging our community to make room for a conversation.

It might be getting in touch with someone you haven’t heard from lately, inviting a neighbour round, or asking a colleague how things are going — and staying to hear the answer.

As Nene Valley Community First Responders, we volunteer to help people when they need us. But caring for each other is something we can all do, in everyday moments as well as emergencies.

You don’t have to solve someone’s problems. Sometimes, giving them space to speak openly, without rushing or judging, is a good place to start.

And if you’re having a difficult time yourself, you deserve that same care. You can ask for support even if you’re unsure what to say.

After a full day at work, David and Paul are logged on this evening, giving up their own time to support our local community.

They’re currently on standby at Rushden Lakes, ready to respond to 999 and 111 calls across Rushden, Higham Ferrers, Wellingborough and surrounding villages.

Our responders are all volunteers, fitting their duties around work and family life to support EMAS and help those who need us.

Sometimes, a simple thank you means more than you can imagine.

When our volunteers respond to a 999 call, they arrive at what can be one of the most frightening and difficult moments in someone’s life. We provide the care and support we can, hand over to our ambulance colleagues and, more often than not, we never find out what happened afterwards.

But today was different.

Recently, Rocialle and Kayleigh were logged on when they responded to an urgent 999 call and supported a patient who needed their help.

Today, they had the very special opportunity to meet that patient again, who came along to personally thank them and the wider Nene Valley Community First Responder team.

They even brought flowers and cakes for Rocialle and Kayleigh as a lovely gesture of thanks.

For our volunteers, moments like this are incredibly special. To see someone again, doing well, and to hear first-hand that you made a difference is something that stays with you.

We’re hugely proud of Rocialle and Kayleigh. Like all of our responders, they give their own time to be there for people in our community when they need us most.

Moments like today are a wonderful reminder of the difference our volunteers can make.

This is why we do what we do.
