The children had such a lovely day at the farm. They were so excited for the coach ride, chatting about everything they could see and which animals they hoped to meet.

They enjoyed an ice lolly on arrival before feeding the animals, asking brilliant questions about who ate what. Highlights included stroking the donkey, meeting the giant rabbits, spotting a nesting goose family, and playing in the sandpit, outdoor area and soft play.

After a calm lunch and a very busy afternoon, we headed back to Preschool with some very tired little travellers. A wonderful day all round.

Spaces available for September 2026. Please email [email protected] to book a show round.

☀️ Sun Safety at Great Doddington Village Preschool ☀️

We’re proud to be a Sun Safe Nursery and are committed to keeping our children protected while enjoying outdoor play.

How we keep children safe in the sun:
• Children should arrive in sun‑safe clothing, including a short‑sleeved top and a sun hat.
• Please apply sun cream before Preschool and send in a named factor 30+ cream for reapplication.
• With permission, we can use our Preschool factor 50 sun cream if needed.
• Staff reapply sun cream after lunch and monitor UV levels daily.
• When UV levels are high, we limit direct sun exposure, provide shade, and may move activities indoors.
• Fresh water is always available and children are encouraged to drink regularly from an open cup.
• Staff model safe sun habits too.

We want children to enjoy the outdoors while learning how to stay safe in the sunshine.

The children have shown a strong interest in insects over the last few weeks and have been on the hunt for them in the garden 🪲🐞🐜🐛

Because of this, we had a special delivery of baby caterpillars a few weeks ago 🐛 Over the past few weeks the children have been watching the caterpillars grow bigger each day and noticed they change into chrysalis. We read information books about how the chrysalis help the caterpillars form into beautiful butterflies 🦋

After our half term break, the children arrived to preschool back and saw the cryalytis had changed into 5 butterflies 🦋 They children learnt how it is important for the butterflies to spread out their wings so they could dry and eat fruit to give them energy.

Afterwards, we released the butterflies and watched them fly into the air. The children having been keeping a close eye in the garden to see if the butterflies come back to preschool 🦋

We had such a lovely afternoon yesterday visiting the chicks at Great Doddington Primary School. The children were absolutely fascinated, lots of wide eyes, gentle hands and brilliant little conversations about what they could see. It was a great chance for them to learn about living things and ask questions in a really natural, hands‑on way.

Trips like this also help our older children who will be moving on to Primary School soon. Being able to explore the school, meet staff and feel comfortable in the environment makes such a difference to their confidence as September gets closer.

🌟 Starting Reception Helping Your Child Get Ready for School 🌟

As we move closer to the exciting transition into Reception, we want to support families of children who are leaving us on their journey to school with clear, practical guidance on how to help children feel confident and prepared for their first days at school.

The Starting Reception guidehttps://startingreception.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Starting-Reception.pdf explains that all children develop at their own pace, and there are lots of simple things you can do at home to build independence, confidence and readiness.
