Our latest Toastmasters meeting explored “The Unknown”, bringing together personal stories, fresh ideas and plenty of laughter.

We warmed up by sharing our most memorable meals and the people and moments that made them special. Our three speakers then explored the connection between physical and mental wellbeing, lessons from volunteering on a farm in France, and the importance of perseverance and never giving up.

Table Topics challenged us to imagine new rules for everyday life—from AI-controlled traffic to Monday morning exercise and sharing snacks. The answers were creative and entertaining, with kindness and empathy emerging as a common thread.

Congratulations to all three speakers, who shared the Best Speaker award, and to Fin, our Best Evaluator!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so welcoming and enjoyable. A special thank you to our guest, Denise, for her thoughtful, balanced and constructive feedback. Her honest observations and practical suggestions gave everyone something valuable to take away.

Another lovely evening of learning, encouragement and stepping outside our comfort zones. We look forward to the next one!

Our latest Toastmasters meeting was a warm reminder that every role, every speech and every piece of feedback helps us grow.

We began by welcoming members and guests and encouraging everyone to sign up for meeting roles. It was especially lovely to see guests joining the warm-up and Table Topics, sharing their own stories from the start. We also revisited the Toastmasters “HATS” habits: handshake, applause, timing and salutation.

The warm-up connected public speaking with job interviews. It was a lively way to get everyone speaking - and a practical demonstration of how Toastmasters skills transfer into everyday life.

The prepared speeches gave our evaluators plenty to explore: The Toast Master brought *Beyond Berlin* to life through descriptive language, gestures and stage movement; another speaker used vivid storytelling to show how food brings people together; and the 3rd speaker delivered his Icebreaker, marking another important step in his Toastmasters journey.

After the break, it was the Table Topics session. We heard stories about Machu Picchu, working through the pandemic, disrupted journeys, dream trips to New York, island adventures, cruises, UK staycations and even holidays on another planet. The questions flowed naturally from one speaker to the next, giving both members and guests a chance to think on their feet.

The evaluations were encouraging and practical, with advice on openings, conclusions, gesture, vocal variety and making a short impromptu answer feel like a complete mini-speech. Our General Evaluator closed by recognising the preparation, supportive feedback, confident participation and welcoming atmosphere.

One of our guests took home the Best Table Topics award, while another found the meeting informative and its atmosphere supportive, and said he would consider coming again.

That is what Toastmasters is all about: practising together, supporting one another and leaving every meeting a little more confident than when we arrived.

Another constructive, informative, thought-provoking—and very enjoyable—meeting!

Both of our newest members got involved, with the 1st speaker winning Best Table Topics Speaker once again and the 2nd speaker delivering an excellent evaluation of the prepared speech on AI and voting.

The speech on AI and voting was fascinating and delivered in the speaker’s distinctive and engaging style. The same speaker then continued the AI theme as Table Topics Master, using AI-supported feedback to create a highly interactive and enjoyable session. Everyone got involved!

A particular highlight was the way the 3rd speaker brought together all the answers from the entire Table Topics session and turned them into a comprehensive, well-structured conclusion—an amazing achievement!

Our Table Topics Evaluators provided thoughtful, useful and insightful feedback throughout the evening.

The 4th speaker delivered an educational speech on mentoring and Pathways, highlighting the club’s plans to introduce mentoring soon. They also won the closely contested Speaker of the Night award!

Our Timekeeper kept the meeting running to schedule and reminded the Toastmaster of the Evening several times when the timings had been forgotten—oops!

Finally, our General Evaluator delivered perceptive and high-quality feedback, adding enormous value for the whole club.
It was a fantastic evening, with everyone contributing to a positive, supportive and enjoyable atmosphere. Each meeting reminds us how much we can learn from one another.

See you all at the next one!

Stepping Outside Our Comfort Zones

At our latest Toastmasters meeting, the theme "Out of Your Comfort Zone" was more than a phrase: it ran through every prepared speech, impromptu challenge and piece of feedback.

The Toastmaster opened the evening by reminding us that growth can begin with something as simple as volunteering for a meeting role. Those roles keep the club moving, but they also develop skills that travel with us into work and everyday life.

Our 1st prepared speaker then brought the theme vividly to life. After more than nine years with one company, the speaker had handed in a resignation to take a career break, invest in personal development and explore a new direction. We heard an honest account of preparing financially, considering further study, developing new habits and planning time on a farm in southern France. The message captured the courage behind change: sometimes we step forward not because we know exactly what will happen, but because remaining where we are no longer allows us to grow. The speech concluded, “Perhaps not knowing is the point.”

The 2nd speaker followed with "The Scent of a Killer", an inventive and highly interactive speech. He passed a fragrance around the room and invited everyone to describe the memories and sensations it created before revealing the unsettling history behind it. The experiment showed how strongly stories and context can change our perception. The speaker also handled questions and interruptions with confidence, demonstrating the audience-management skills at the heart of his project.

The Table Topics was carried out in an unusual twist. Participants received the same short story about a caravan holiday, but each speaker had to reinterpret it or suggest a stronger delivery. One script quickly became many: a debate about cream or jam on scones, a shark thriller, a barbecue mishap and several completely different storytelling styles. It was a lively reminder that vocal variety, gestures, audience interaction and imagination can transform even the simplest words.

The evaluations and guest comments brought the evening's lesson together. We improve by speaking, by listening and by offering specific, supportive feedback. Attending a meeting already takes us beyond what feels familiar; volunteering for the next role takes us one step further.

Thank you to everyone who spoke, evaluated, took a role or joined us as a guest. We look forward to seeing where the next step takes you.

Warwick Speakers and Leaders enjoyed a lively, generous and wonderfully varied Toastmasters meeting on Monday, July 6, 2026. It was full of prepared speeches, practical evaluations, quick-thinking Table Topics and plenty of encouragement for members and guests alike. The word of the day was "scorching", and it suited the evening well: the room was warm, the energy was high, and the contributions kept coming from every corner of the club.

This meeting showed the best of Warwick Speakers and Leaders: experienced members supporting newer speakers, guests being encouraged to take the stage, roles being used as learning opportunities, and humour making the whole evening more memorable. From Adam's hosting and room setup, to Moises' leadership-focused speech, to Emily's memorable first prepared-speech impression, to Karim winning Table Topics on her first guest appearance, it was a meeting full of courage, contribution and community.
