Fantastic to see plans submitted for 100 new homes on Brownfield land in Coventry!

Prioritising brownfield sites allows for quicker timelines compared to greenfield development. A ‘brownfield-first’ approach not only provides new houses more quickly, but also maximises use of public transport, reduces the amount of car travel, and minimises the environmental impact compared with greenfield and Green Belt housing.

The Westwood Business Park site, occupied by E:On for more than 30 years, could see 100 homes built.

Please consider signing this petition to clamp down on land banking. This is for the 1.4 million houses, that according IPPR analysis, have been granted permission since 2007 but remain unbuilt. We believe communities should not be asked to release further countryside while previously approved sites remain stalled.

We ask the Government to introduce mandatory build-out timeframes for approved sites, apply stronger penalties at sites where there has not been progress, pass “use it or lose it” planning permissions, strengthen compulsory purchase powers, and greater support to tackle long-term empty homes.

Last month we reached our target of planting and restoring more than 3km of hedgerow across Warwickshire this winter!

Our Hedgerow Heroes have been hard at work creating new stretches off hedgerow as well as rejuvenating old hedges through Hedgelaying. A big thank you to everybody who joined us at one of our volunteer events!

This October we will resume our efforts to contribute to the CPRE goal of 100 miles of new hedgerow by the end of our Centenary year.

Volunteer Planning Officer vacancies for Warwick and Solihull!

Do you live in Warwick or Solihull, and want to help to protect their beautiful landscapes?

CPRE Warwickshire are looking for a Planning Officer to monitor planning applications, and oppose threats to the countryside.

No formal qualifications are required. What matters most is enthusiasm for the role, as full training will be provided. However, applicants should be aware that planning regulations can be complex. A willingness to engage with the subject and desire to learn are essential.

Our Hedgerow Heroes have helped to plant more than a kilometre of new hedgerow across the county this December!

A huge thank you to everybody who came out to help us restore nature in all corners of Warwickshire this month. Planting new hedgerows is essential to address the biodiversity and climate crises.

Our volunteer teams from Jaguar Land Rover, Valpak Limited, CPRE Leicestershire, and Dove Bank Primary School, as well as countless individuals, worked tirelessly to achieve our total.

We are looking forward to the new year, where we will continue to plant and restore hedgerows across the county.
