A Lifetime Dedicated to Animals and People 💚
After more than 40 years in animal welfare, our CEO, Nigel Mason, is stepping down from his role at Margaret Green Animal Rescue to start his well-earned retirement.
Nigel is moving away from frontline charity leadership, following a career spent helping to modernise some of the UK’s best-known animal welfare organisations.
From his early days as an RSPCA inspector in 1980, to leading major organisational change at charities including Blue Cross, Wood Green, Raystede, Assisi Animal Sanctuary and Margaret Green Animal Rescue, Nigel has witnessed huge changes across the sector.
Throughout his career, one belief has remained constant:
“We’re a people charity that specialises in pets.”
As the sector faces new challenges following the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis, Nigel believes the future of animal welfare lies increasingly in prevention, collaboration and supporting people to keep animals in loving homes.
After four decades of compassion, change and care, he remains optimistic about the future of the sector.
“It’s always about giving animals a better life - and helping people at the same time.”

We are so grateful to Nigel for everything he has achieved and the many positive changes and big steps he’s taken to transform the charity’s future.
We wish him a very happy retirement, and we look forward to sharing more news about what’s to come soon.
