At Margaret Green Animal Rescue we take in pets that have become homeless due to a change in circumstances, or that have been neglected, mistreated or abandoned. Regardless of their circumstance, each pet will find a warm bed, a kind team and all the love and respect they deserve awaiting them at Margaret Green Animal Rescue. As well as veterinary care, pets are prepared and rehabilitated ready fo

r a new home. Most of our animals are vaccinated, micro chipped, treated against worms and fleas and neutered before going to their new home. Finding forever homes is at the very heart of what we do and there is no better feeling than knowing we have found the perfect match. Our rehoming process is designed specifically to help potential owners adopt a pet that fits in perfectly with their lives and loved ones.

We are absolutely delighted to announce the appointment of Joanna Tiffin as our new Chief Executive at Margaret Green Animal Rescue.

Joanna brings more than 15 years of senior leadership experience across values-driven and mission-led organisations, including the NHS, adult social care and the not-for-profit sector.

A lifelong animal lover with strong local roots, she moved to Dorset at the age of two and grew up in Poole, and has fond family connections to Devon.

Over the years, her passion for animal welfare has extended to caring for a remarkably diverse range of species, including dogs, ponies, sugar gliders, snakes, lizards, spiders and scorpions!

A message from Joanna:

"It is a genuine privilege to lead Margaret Green Animal Rescue. As someone who grew up in Dorset, returning to lead the county's oldest animal charity feels like coming home.

What drew me here is MGAR's multi-species mission and the extraordinary dedication of its staff and volunteers โ€” many with decades of service.

I'm most looking forward to building on our founder's legacy and growing our impact for the animals and communities who rely on us."

As we look to the future, our Chair of Trustees, Lorraine Suchanek, says:

"We are delighted to welcome Joanna as our new Chief Executive. Her leadership experience, local roots and lifelong devotion to animals make her the ideal person to honour Margaret Green's legacy and lead us forward."

Please join us in welcoming Joanna to the team, and be sure to visit our website: www.margaretgreenanimalrescue.org.uk/welcome-joanna-tiffin/ to read more.

Can you help Noodle and his pals this summer? โ˜€

With the current heatwave, we have some dogs in our care who desperately need sun cream to help protect their skin.

We would be incredibly grateful for donations of pet-safe sun cream in spray form, which is the preferred application method for many of our rescue dogs.

If you would like to gift some dog-friendly sun cream to our rescue residents, please visit our Amazon wishlists below:

๐Ÿถ Lincoln Farm, Dorset: https://amzn.eu/01rYSR2i
๐Ÿถ Wingletang, Devon: https://amzn.eu/0gA1YeMN

Alternatively, we'd love for you to pop in during our opening hours to drop off your kind donations: www.margaretgreenanimalrescue.org.uk/contact-us/

From hairless breeds, like Noodle here, to light or thin coats, scars from previous injuries and skin conditions, there are lots of reasons why sun cream is so beneficial to many dogs and other animals.

โ˜€ Hot weather advice ๐Ÿ˜Ž

With extreme heat forecast this week, we're re-sharing some top tips to help protect your furry friends in the hot weather...

๐Ÿถ Avoid walking dogs during hot spells to reduce the risk of heatstroke and burning paws on pavements.

๐ŸŒ… Keep walks short and aim for cooler parts of the day, including early morning and late evening.

โ˜‚๏ธ Provide access to cooler areas around the house and in the shade, and avoid hot spots like cars, conservatories, outbuildings or caravans where possible.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Keep water fresh and topped up throughout the day โ€“ cooling mats and paddling pools are a great and fun way to keep your dogs cool.

๐Ÿงด Use pet-safe suncream on exposed parts of your petโ€™s skin, such as the tips of their ears and nose, to avoid sunburn.

๐Ÿชฎ Groom their coats regularly to help brush away any dead or excess fur.

๐Ÿ˜‹ Offer cooling treats, like frozen Kongs and Lickimats, alongside other fun and tasty enrichment to keep them physically and mentally stimulated.

If you are concerned about your animal or suspect they are suffering from heatstroke, please contact your vet immediately.

is back, and this year is all about feeding bunnies better ๐Ÿ‡๐ŸŒฑ

To start the celebrations, we're sharing some diet top tips and advice on how to keep your rabbits happy and healthy!

๐Ÿฐ We recommend feeding pellets over a museli diet, as the latter enables selective feeding - where they pick out the sugary components and leave the high fibre bits they require.

๐Ÿฐ Selective feeding increases the risk of obesity, dental disease, fly strike, low water and hay intake.

๐Ÿฐ We suggest feeding your rabbits around 15g (1 egg cup) of pellets once a day.

๐Ÿฐ Scattering the pellets into their hay, instead of a bowl, helps to encourage natural behaviours and slow down their eating.

๐Ÿฐ Hay is the foundation of a healthy diet and should make up 85% of their food.

๐Ÿฐ Rabbits are designed to eat little and often, so having a constant supply of hay and grass, even in their toileting areas, will support dental wear, digestive health and natural behaviours.

๐Ÿฐ If your rabbit is fussy about hay, you can try mixing in different varieties of good quality feeding hay and dried forage.

๐Ÿฐ Hiding hay in a variety of places provides fun enrichment and encourages foraging behaviour.

Meet Cookie ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿช

Cookie is a classic, 2-year-old hound with a big heart and a nose thatโ€™s always ready for adventure!

He is incredibly affectionate and forms strong attachments to his people very quickly, relishing close companionship and reassurance.

Outdoors, Cookie's nose takes the lead and he becomes curious and independent, happiest when following scents and exploring his surroundings ๐Ÿพ

He would make a fantastic hiking companion and has all the qualities to excel in scent work, or other activities that allow him to use his natural instincts.

Cookie adores other dogs and relaxes much more easily when another canine is around, so he is looking for a home with a well-established, confident dog who can help guide him.

He would love to find a dog-savvy home with adults and older children, but he'd be best suited to a household without cats or small animals ๐Ÿก

We feel that Cookie would thrive with a family who understands hound behaviours and can provide him with plenty of regular exercise, mental enrichment and ongoing guidance.

With the right environment, patience and kindness, he has so much potential to grow into a loving, loyal and adventurous companion.

๐Ÿ“ Cookie is being cared for at our Lincoln Farm centre in Dorset.
