The Falkland Road Organic Growers have been weeding and preparing the soil for planting some winter salad. The garlic is starting to grow and the parsnips and leeks are ready for digging up.

Autumn has brought colder and wetter weather, as well as fallen leaves, which have needed clearing from the paths. However, the rose in Chris's garden is still in bloom and the rosemary is flowering too.

We're launching a free four-part Nature Towns and Cities: Liverpool City Region Webinar Series, bringing together communities, organisations, volunteers and partners to explore how we can create greener, healthier and more resilient places for people and nature.

The series, developed by Nature Towns and Cities partners The Mersey Forest, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Liverpool John Moores University , Merseyside BioBank and Merseyside Environmental AdvisoryService, will provide opportunities to connect with others, share ideas and discover practical ways to turn ambition into local action.

Nominations close soon for the Cool Wirral Awards 2026!

The deadline for nominations is 11pm on Friday 30th October.

The awards recognise climate action taking place across Wirral and showcase the fantastic work being delivered by communities, businesses and local organisations.

Whether its reducing carbon emissions, improving biodiversity, encouraging sustainable travel, cutting waste, supporting community resilience, or inspiring others to take action, the Cool Wirral Partnership wants to hear about it!

🍏 🍅 🥕 FREE Food Waste Prevention Workshop

Tuesday 24th November, 10.30 - 11:30am

Wirral Environmental Network, Sandon Building, Falkland Road, Wallasey, CH44 8ER

Join us at WEN for a FREE, hands-on workshop packed with practical ways to waste less food and save money.

We'll look at smarter food storage, simple preservation tips and creative ways to use up what’s already in your kitchen.

Discover which 10 everyday foods we waste the most in an interactive guessing game, then learn simple ways to rescue them.

Watch a cooking demonstration and sample the finished food.

Take home a recipe booklet and a guide to saving food.

The session will be relaxed, friendly and suitable for everyone, with time for discussions, questions and advice.

This event is run by The Environmental Community CIC, as part of their Food Waste Prevention programme across the Liverpool City Region, funded by the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority.

Hedgehog Workshop for Home Education Families

Friday 27th November, 1-3 pm

Wirral Environmental Network, Sandon Building, Falkland Road, Wallasey, CH44 8ER

Jackson's Animal Rescue are delivering a hedgehog workshop at Wirral Environmental Network, designed especially for Elective Home Education families.

The event will include a presentation and discussion about hedgehogs, followed by hedgehog-themed activities, stories and songs.

Please note: there will be no hedgehogs present!

Refreshments will be provided during a short break.

The event is open to children aged 4 - 11.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or carer, with a maximum of 3 children to 1 parent/ carer.

Please select the number of children's places and the number of adults' places you would like from the ticket options available.

Please also give the age of your child/ children to help provide age appropriate resources and activities.

The workshop is free but donations are much appreciated.

Jackson's Animal Rescue can take cash donations, or you can donate supplies of dog, cat, kitten or puppy food and kibble-sized biscuits.

We also welcome cash donations to WEN. Alternatively, you can support us by purchasing items made by our Crafters group, or plants grown by the Falkland Road Organic Growers.

Re:Youse CIC are opening a creative reuse centre and ecohub on Bridge Street in Neston.

They are looking for some items to use in the centre. Here's their wishlist:

- Soft furnishings such as cushions, throws and rugs in good condition to help create the cosy welcome area.
- Two seater couches/sofas, or comfy chairs
- Storage especially for cube-based shelves: baskets, drawers etc
- Locking filing cabinet
- A till
- Display storage
- Pegboards
- Any cleaning products (especially eco-based ones) and cloths

The next Wirral Wildlife talk is
'Amphibians & Reptiles on the Wirral' by Tom Doherty-Bone,
Wirral Amphibian & Reptile Group

It's on Friday 13th November, 7.30pm
at Thornton Hough WI Hall, Thornton Hough, CH63 1JL

Admission £5.

This talk will cover the amphibians and reptiles on the Wirral, including the history of species, their conservation, the work of the Wirral Amphibian & Reptile Group, current issues emerging on the Wirral and how people can get involved.

Tom Doherty-Bone is a conservationist and ecologist who grew up on the Wirral and founded and chaired the Wirral ARG in 2019 and has recently set up the conservation organisation Friendly Frog Org.

​The talk will be followed by complimentary tea/coffee and homemade cake.
