What a lovely tribute from the Cathedral folks for a lovely man.

Tim has given us more than 11 years of loyal and dedicated service here at Cap Care Wakefield and we are all simply devastated at the news of his death.

He had a sharp wit and a character which impacted everyone he worked alongside, and of course the thousands of clients for whom he has been such a big part of helping over the years.

All of our love goes out to Maureen his amazing mum (our longest serving volunteer!) and the rest of the family.

Thank you Tim. We will miss you.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our much-loved Cathedral Verger, Tim Elvidge, died at the weekend following a short illness.

Tim first became part of Cathedral life as a server in 1994 and, over the last 32 years, became so much more than a colleague. He was a friend to us all and a much-loved part of the Cathedral community.

Tim cared deeply about the Cathedral and everything that happened here. Setting up for Sunday services was a key part of his role, and something he did with enormous pride and care. He had an incredible knowledge of the Cathedral, its life and its traditions, and there was very little Tim didn’t know.

But more than any of that, we will miss Tim himself.

We will miss the huge smile that greeted you, his infectious laugh, his kindness and his friendship. We will miss the conversations, the stories and all those little moments that come from sharing so many years of Cathedral life together.

His loss is being felt very deeply by all of us, particularly amongst the Verger, Serving and Welcoming Teams, where Tim was such a familiar and loved presence.

Tim leaves behind a legacy of care, compassion and a genuine love for this Cathedral, which was such a huge part of his life.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Tim’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.

We have lost a colleague, but more importantly we have lost a friend.

Tim will be very much missed, but never forgotten.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory. 🕊
