This might sound silly, but sometimes we're scared to say that Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary is a vegan sanctuary.

Not because we're ashamed of it, but because we know the reactions it can sometimes bring. We've avoided mentioning it in funding applications, social media posts and conversations because we're worried people will think we're trying to push an agenda.

The truth is much simpler.

We are vegan because we believe animals deserve kindness, compassion and respect. That's what led us to start a sanctuary, and it's what guides the care we give every day.

When a frightened pig arrives needing a safe home, when a sheep needs vet treatment, or when a neglected chicken finally gets to feel grass beneath their feet, nobody asks whether helping them is political. It's just compassion.

So perhaps it's time we stop being nervous about saying it.

Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary is a vegan sanctuary, and we're proud to provide a safe, loving home for animals who deserve a second chance. 💚

Anyone who knows Dolly the turkey knows he’s... unique. 😂

For months he’s been in a committed relationship with our wheelbarrow.

Lately though, he seems to have moved on and is now spending all his time with a football. ⚽️

What do you think Dolly will fall in love with next? 🤔😂

We come to you with an important message this National Animal Rights Day...

We are proud to provide a safe and loving refuge for animals who are so often neglected, exploited or mistreated.

With us, animals are given the chance to live the lives they deserve.

But, in complete honesty, our sanctuary is struggling.

Each month is a fight to keep going, and our recent vet bills have placed even more pressure on our extremely limited resources.

One thing remains certain: every animal in our care receives the very best care we can provide and we are proud to show others that these animals are individuals worthy of love, and we are so keen to continue this important work.

If you can, please help us by donating today:

Thank-you for your support and for continuing the fight for animals ✊ we love and appreciate you all 💚

🚨 We need to raise £3,000 for vet care 🚨

At Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary, veterinary care is one of our biggest and most important expenses.

Right now, we have an outstanding veterinary bill of around £1,500, alongside the recent neutering of our recently rescued piglet boys, rabbit vaccinations, ongoing medication for some of our elderly residents, and further treatment needed for animals including two of our goats Ambrose and Zeus. (more details about each of these is on the fundraising page)

As a volunteer-led sanctuary caring for more than 80 rescued animals, we never want cost to be the reason an animal doesn't receive the care they need.

We're aiming to raise £3,000 to help cover existing veterinary costs and ensure we can continue providing treatment, medication and preventative healthcare to the animals who call Pear Tree home.

💚 Donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/ptfvetappeal

If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser. Every share helps us reach more people and gives our animals the best chance of receiving the care they deserve. Thank you for helping us keep our promise to the animals in our care. 🐷🐐🐑🐰💚

Last week, Colin the 6 week old cockerel was found abandoned in a cardboard box labelled "free" on one of the hottest days of the year so far.

Thankfully, he was rescued by a lovely local lady named Lisa, who brought him to safety and gave him his name.

We're happy to say he's settling in well, learning to trust humans, and is currently sharing space with Susan the turkey, who seems to have taken on babysitting duties!

We've welcomed several new rescues recently, all needing food, shelter and care. If you'd like to help animals like Colin, any donation would be hugely appreciated 👉 https://peartreefarmanimalsanctuary.beaconforms.com/form/2e788c4e thank-you 💚

A dream come true for our rescued horses ❤️

Thanks to the incredible support of the The AVM Foundation, our brand-new horse shelter is now complete.

As a small sanctuary, we often rely on second-hand materials, donations and a lot of hard work to improve our facilities, so being able to provide our horses with a purpose-built shelter like this means the world to us.

A huge thank you as well to WFP Timber Products for constructing the shelter and helping bring this project to life.

The boys are currently enjoying their summer grazing field, but later this year they'll return to this area where their new shelter will provide protection and comfort for years to come.

From all of us at Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary, thank you for making this possible.
