🚐 Volunteer Spotlight 🚐

Many of our cadets will recognise this minibus. It's transported them to sailing, boating, camps, competitions, events and adventures across the country. We're incredibly proud of it, and it plays a vital role in helping us deliver opportunities for our young people.

What many people don't see are the jobs that happen quietly behind the scenes to keep it on the road.

Today, one of our Trustees gave up part of his working day to take the minibus for its six-weekly safety inspection and annual service. It's not the most glamorous volunteer role, and there are no headlines or fanfare, but it's an essential job that ensures our cadets can continue to travel safely to the activities they enjoy.

This is just one example of the many ways our volunteers support Glastonbury & Street Sea Cadets. Whether it's maintaining vehicles, organising fundraising events, repairing facilities and our carpark, supporting training, or helping at activities, every contribution helps create opportunities for local young people.

Could you help in a role like this?

Volunteering doesn't always mean giving up an evening every week. Sometimes it's helping with a specific task, sharing a skill, lending a hand at an event, or taking on one of the many behind-the-scenes jobs that help keep our unit running.

Last night our volunteers were busy hosting our Quiz Night, raising funds to support opportunities for our cadets. This morning, a team of volunteers rolled up their sleeves in the rain to tackle the potholes in our car park, using generously donated materials from CRS and Building Supplies Glastonbury and giving up their Saturday to improve our unit. There's still more to be done.

Huge thank you to Jason, Helen Andrew & Jon for your hard work today. It's a great reminder that Sea Cadets is about so much more than what happens on parade nights. Behind every activity, trip, qualification and adventure is a team of dedicated volunteers working hard to keep our unit running and provide the best possible experience for our young people. We’ve had such a fun night! Quiz nights are a great way to bring everyone together and have a laugh! Thanks to Tesco Glastonbury, Morrisons Glastonbury and Safeology for donating prizes and for Burns the Bread for donating amazing goodies. Well done to our lucky winning teams 🤩 See you at the next social event!!
