It’s Wednesday, the sun’s out, and summer is finally starting to show up. A perfect reminder that brighter days are on the way.

Whether you’re in college, working hard at your job or apprenticeship, or taking time to figure things out because you’re not currently in education or employment, your journey is still valid.

Every step you take is progress.
Every day is a chance to reset, breathe and keep moving forward in your own time.

Here’s to sunshine, growth and finding your own path this summer 💛

🛠️ Life Skills: The Things No One Teaches You

Some skills aren’t taught in school.
Some aren’t taught by carers or parents.
But they are things you can learn and you’re not expected to know them automatically.

Here are a few real‑life skills many young people learn later than they think:

• Changing a fuse – knowing how to safely replace one when something suddenly stops working
• Changing a tyre – or at least knowing what to do if you get stuck
• Taking an electricity or gas meter reading – so you can keep track of your bills
• Calling to make a GP appointment – which can feel awkward, but gets easier with practice

These aren’t “common sense” skills, they’re taught skills. And it’s okay if you’re learning them now.

Future Foundations is here to help you build confidence with the practical things that make independent living feel less overwhelming and more achievable 💜

🧼 Life Skills: Cleaning Shared Spaces 💜

This week we’re learning how to keep shared spaces clean, comfortable and fair for everyone. Small routines like wiping surfaces, tidying as you go, and taking turns with jobs, make a big difference to how a home feels.

It’s all about respect, teamwork and building habits that help everyone feel relaxed and included 💜

Happy Father’s Day from FordHaven Future Foundations 💜

Today we’re celebrating all the father figures who make a difference: dads, step‑dads, foster dads, kinship carers, residential staff, mentors, and the trusted adults who show up with patience, guidance, and care.

We also want to recognise that Father’s Day can feel different for everyone.
For some, it’s a day of appreciation.
For others, it may bring mixed emotions, memories, or challenges.
Wherever you are with it, your feelings are valid.

To all our care‑experienced young people:
You deserve support, stability, and people who believe in you, today and every day.
We’re proud to walk alongside you as you build your future, your way.

Sending kindness, strength, and connection this Father’s Day. ✨

Myth‑Busting: Care Leaver Edition 💜

Myth: Care leavers should know everything by 18.
Truth: Everyone learns at their own pace, and that’s okay.

Growing up in care doesn’t mean you’re expected to magically know how to manage bills, cook meals, understand housing, or navigate adulthood overnight. Independence is a journey, not a deadline.

You deserve time, support and space to learn, just like anyone else.
Every step forward counts 💜

🌈 Autistic Pride Day 💜

Today is all about celebrating autistic identity, strengths and individuality. Autistic Pride Day reminds us that neurodiversity isn’t something to hide — it’s something that adds colour, creativity and perspective to the world.

Life can come with extra challenges, but also incredible talents, passions and ways of thinking that deserve to be recognised and valued.

Whether you communicate differently, think differently or experience the world in your own unique way, your voice matters. Your identity matters. And you deserve spaces where you can be fully yourself.

Future Foundations stands with you today and every day 💜

Share your thoughts and views with Somerset Young People’s Voice about AI. How can it help or hinder your life?

AI, two little letters making a big impact on our world, but is it good or is it bad? This month in Youth Forum we would like to know what Somerset's children and young people think of AI.

Is it a technology that you use or are you against it?
Are you excited by it or are you worried and concerned by it?
What are the costs to jobs, the environment, mental health and critical thinking?

If you are a child or young person living in Somerset aged 11-18 years (up to 25 years for SEND) and you'd like to have your say about AI, as well as the services and support available across the county, join us for this month's Youth Forum, get your voice heard and help make a difference.

This month's Youth Forum session will be taking place on Wednesday 24 June, 5.00-6.30pm on Microsoft Teams.
