Project Food are looking for volunteers in Axminster and Chard.

Do you have a few hours to spare each week?
Would you enjoy supporting people to build confidence in the kitchen?

At Project Food, our sessions are about so much more than cooking, they help improve people’s mental and physical wellbeing, build confidence, and bring people together.

You don’t need to be a professional chef, if you’re a home cook with a basic understanding of healthy eating and enjoy working with others, we’d love to hear from you.

Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.

Last couple of spaces left for Monday:

There are a few places remaining for our Somerset Food and Growing Forum on Monday 8 June!

We'll be exploring the beautiful grounds at The Bishop's Palace & Gardens with Head Gardener James Cross, and learning about their history and how they're maintained. We'll also hear from Community Gardener Jo Stephenson about her role and the impact is has.

This is a wonderful opportunity for groups and organisations focussed on food resilience or growing for good to meet with peers in an idyllic location.

Interested? Find out more and book your place here: https://www.sparksomerset.org.uk/event/somerset-food-and-growing-forum-june-26/

The garden is buzzing with activity this month and flourishing with flowers and veg.
There is still time to sow many other wonderful varieties as the season progresses. Succession sow crops such as carrots, lettuce, leafy herbs and beans to fuel the kitchen through the summer months – and avoid those gluts!

Thinking ahead...
Recently, across most parts of the country we have seen very warm temperatures. As the weather forecast changes again it may be a good time to think about saving the rain water for the next dry spell. Our partners can help with solutions to save water with their range of water butts.

Pest & diseases patrol...

🌱Leaf spots, rusts and rose blackspot are rarely killer diseases; they just disfigure. Remove affected leaves, flowers and berries and put in the green waste bin for professional composting.

🌱Avoid sprays, even organic ones, as they also target the predators such as hoverflies, ladybirds and parasitic wasps. Squash large aphid colonies with your fingers – wear gloves if squeamish.

Find all the organic gardening tasks you can get stuck into, follow the link in our Link Tree under 'Your Organic Garden in June' or on our website 'Monthly organic gardening advice'
