Decolonise Fest

Decolonise Fest Decolonise Fest is an annual DIY punk fest featuring music, art & workshops by punx of colour. Allies are welcome to attend. Please respect this.

We are the DIY Diaspora Punx and we are the collective behind Decolonise Fest, an annual DIY festival of music, art & workshops by and for punx of colour. We define Diaspora Punx as people who are descended (through one or both parents) from the original inhabitants of Africa, Caribbean, Asia, Middle East, Latin America, Australasia, North America, and the islands of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indi

an Ocean. We want to celebrate all the brilliant diaspora punx that are creating right now, acknowledge our elders and the doors they opened for us, and make room for more punx of colour to take centre stage and make noise. We are taking Paypal donations as part of our fundraising efforts here: https://www.paypal.me/decolonisefest

If you meet the description of a diaspora punx and want to join our organising group please message our page and we'll send you more information. White people cannot join the organising group.

Thank you to those of you who reached out to us in solidarity concerning the hit pieces which appeared in the Telegraph and on GB News.

Decolonise Fest is proud to be led by an all-POC volunteer collective and will continue to curate a space which centres the experiences of punx of colour while welcoming white allies, regardless of where our funding comes from.

We are deeply concerned that the writers chose to single out and name an individual member of our collective. Naming one person misrepresents the way we work, while exposing that individual to potential harassment and harm. This is irresponsible and unnecessary.

Thank you again to Arts Council England and the PRS Foundation, whose funding ensured opportunities for POC musicians & creatives, while allowing us to create a radical and energising festival for a diverse group of attendees.

Thank you also to Peter Tatchell for speaking in our defence on GB News. At no point did The Telegraph or GB News reach out to us for comment or clarification. They also used our photographer’s (.mukuze) work without permission or credit and we condemn this.

Decolonise Fest will return later this year.
